Anyone Coming Down From The Usa?

Your = possesive i.e., your house, your car, your life you're = contraction you + are i.e., you're coming to my party, right? That being said, unless I am missing some internal fight going on this forum, grammar mistakes are not a big deal on a forum, especially considering that many of us are...

Anyone Coming Down From The Usa?

Hi, I am currently in the USA and my sister in law purchased some items for me to bring back for her. Due to family issues, my stay in the USA will be for longer than I thought, perhaps until September or later. The items she purchased are two children's sneakers, two jackets (both roll up into...

Paraguay Versus Argentina As An Expat Destination?

It was intended to be a question as I don´t know if you have done much talking, speak spanish, etc. Also the circles one runs into will change your perceptions. While most of my friends are artists/filmmakers/film techs, as a documentary filmmaker I have also talked to and interviewed many...

Paraguay Versus Argentina As An Expat Destination?

@Idois I´m not sure how many Argentines you have talked to about intellectual topics. While the generation curently in school might be getting a substandard education, Argentina used to have a very good public school system in which all social classes were educated in public schools. So people...

    Red Wrist Bands/threads

It is big in the jewish community but has spread to many parts of Argentine society, and I`ve also seen in the US. Serafina is right, Gauchito Gil`s color is red and some people use the same tradition to honor him,

    Personal Data Protection In Argentina

Are they the police? Do they have a search warrent? I can call up anyone and demand anything, this does not mean that you have an obligation to respond. I would not respond anymore, it could be a scam or a criminal.

    Import Tax Laws?

They tend to be on the lookout for electronics, such as ipads, computers, TVs, etc

This Would Not Happen In Argentina

Thanks for sharing. I also read that a lot of US prisons don´t allow visits, only video conferencing. So sad.

Domestic Worker Is Pregnant--Question About Bennefits

Thanks for all the tips, especially Cuore. No, I wasn´t asking how to fire her and would never fire a pregnant woman. I´m not Mr. Burns. She is going to get the asignacion para embarazadas and will see about one for her other daughter. I was shocked that she wasn´t getting this already. In fact...

    Bed Bugs.

Sorry to jump on an old thread--I work with a girl who has a bedbug problem at home. We share the same office. What should I do to prevent bringing bed bugs home with me? Our office has a wood floor and very little furniture (desks, office chairs). No rugs. We don´t share chairs. nlaruccia you...

Domestic Worker Is Pregnant--Question About Bennefits

The woman who cleans our apartment once a week came back from vacation, and is 6 months pregnant (we thought it was weight gain). She is in white and works the minimum, 6 hours per week. For her maternity leave, do we need to pay it, does the government have to? She isn`t really in the system...

    Young Expat Or Fool?

20,000 pesos monthly is a good salary here for someone starting out. Are you getting Argentine bennefits? (half salary bonus in August and December, obra social, days off, etc) Most make around $8000-$14000 a month. Palermo is one of the more expensive neighborhoods to live and go out in, so...

    La Presidenta

All these ex-spys sending coded messages out to each other on live TV and the lack of likeable characters (I don´t think there are any innocent victims in the whole scandal) makes the whole mess just disgusting.

Best Way To Bring Drugs Into The Country?

The best bet if staying long term is to see a doctor here. It might be available and cheaper. If not, you might be able to get something similar. Adderall is illegal here and opiate based pain killers like Codine are not prescribed like in the US (not sure if illegal or just super hard to get)...

    Expats Not Immigrants

I call myself an immigrant because I plan to stay. I call other people expats if they move around a lot. Interesting note: most "immigrants" to the USA in the immigration heyday planned to return home. Many never did.

    Going Rates For A Electrician

We paid the potero 400 pesos to rewire our phone (change the location of the wire) including materials. It was a half day job. This was in October. Not really electrical work, but kind of close. I would say more than 1000 pesos per day is too much, but that is just my opinion.

Argentina, Second Most Miserable Country On Earth?

I buy really yummy beef in the San Telmo market, never had such good beef, and it is 140 for lomo, 100 for other choice cuts like steaks, 80 for vacio, 46 for ground beef.
