I've found it incredible difficult to meet locals here. I work with a lot but most don't want to socialise.

JamJam, robwerwe, that is so untrue.

You must have had bad luck with locals, cause, beileve me, people here are warm.

One of the best things about Buenos Aires is that a big percentage of people living here ARE NOT from buenos aires originally, but from other parts of Argentina (including BA suburbs). That people (that is probably close to 50%) are the warmest people you could find in any country. Porteños (i mean born porteños) are colder, but this city is so full of argentinians from all over that you dont even need to make friends with porteños-born-here.

I have been here less than 2 years and made a couple of very good friends and some acquiantances (or whatever thats written). My close friends live here but are not born-porteños, and my acquiantances are nice people but born porteños.

Perhaps I've just had a bit of bad luck, most of the people I work with are born and bred porteños.

That is so true, the Porteños are colder. Even in the rest of the country do not appreciate it for this reason. They say "viste" every one or two words and always "vosean" (speak much more of vos)

do tell! i cannot do PM as am new here, but that would be my station in near future! and greengrocers names also ;)

My 2 cents re BA and liking it:

- intensity of colour, air density at sunset. seen from Recoleta, Palermo, Barrio Norte
- stars shine differently - are closer? - seen from Mataderos.
- people are more normal than a standard western metropolis; i do not say 'normal' but closer to middle of gaussian distribution
- climate
- strawberries taste more as they should ;)
- capitalist living in a socialist country.
- people ;)
Good post.

Actually I get worried about my Gaussian distribution

:)
