Tsunamis of the level of todays earthquake and Indonesias that killed over 200 thousand people have never been recorded in written records . there are 8000 seismic stations around the world now which is why in the last few decades, there has been an apparent increase in minor quakes. For the biggies, the stats have been pretty constant.

You said the earthquakes were unprecedented look at the quote, you are wrong.

If you were trying to refer to sesimic activity over given time period again you are wrong, try 1960-64 - and I was wrong also, excuse me, the energy released by just those two earthquakes is greater than the energy of all earthquakes combined since then (looks like you showed up a few decades late for the end of the world). Of course for the majority of human history we haven't had the instruments necessary to read seismic activity accurately nor to detect it accurately at distance in oceans or unpopulated parts of the world but you could safely assume that at some point there was a period of more intense release of energy than 60-64 (putting aside the fact that cherry picking data over periods of 4-5 years in geological terms is not really going to impress anyone with the vaguest notion of scientific methodology).

Yes and your point is ? There have been 4 catasprohic earthquakes in just 1 year and many major earthquakes . Most of these earthquakes have been shallow and located near large cities . Earthquakes are increasing in their magnitude and their damage this is a fact...... Maybe when Los Angeles falls into the sea you might wake up!!!

We control everything else mostly on this fragile planet, but we can't control nature as it always bites back.

It doesn´t matter how many there are per year, if it´s your home city or country then it´s devastating whether you´re there during the quake or not. I hope that everyone here with ties to Japan has been able to locate their family and friends alive and well!

Earthquakes happen in nature but major earthquakes with destructive tsunamis are extremely rare . In the last 100s of years of recorded history there have been very few instances of earthquakes of the scale of Port Au Prince Haiti at a depth of just 8 kms , Aceh earthquake 9.2, Chile Earthquake 8.9 . and todays earthquake of close to 9 in Japan. the last earthquakes have happened since 2007 a small blip in the history of the world . This to me sends warning signals.

Now we have also had more floods and weather anomalies ( russian heat wave) than ever recorded in countries as diverse as Australia, Pakistan and Russia.

This is not normal and these events are increasing in their scope and their human toll.
