Once in land, the psa police is the authority at the airport. They are not corrupt, first hand info.
Or customs regarding how much money you hace.

The immigration agents are corrupt.
The local authorities have no power on a crime that happend in other country (the airplane). The criminal doesn t want to deal with US authorities and the immigration agents don t want to deal with PSA.

I had already stopped bringing cash because of other reasons - home breakin - misplacing it - previous tenant with keys, etc.

This is one more reason not to bring cash.

I use Xoom instead. There are other services available for our Europats.

I've used it several times and never had any problems. You can collect the money from any Argenper office. It's not quite the blue rate but it's still pretty good.

Ok Guys, to the best of my abilities. Please do not chop my head off. This is awful/excellent crazy stuff about this life. Word to the wise.

I met these great gals tonight that are late 20’s early 30’s and listen to what happened to them. First, they are down here as seasoned teachers on a free ride from Obama for a few months. They are not the typical kids in hostels.

On their way here a man next to them (across the row) started a conversation. They were nice but not responsive. When they landed they were taken from the flight to immigrations where they were accused of stealing $3000 USD from him. Searched and threatened….. Yes, the immigrations office is in on this! Immigrations searched them from head to toe....Threatened them to go to jail or prison, but luckily they had very little cash on them (not $ 3000 dollars).

Has Argentina sank to a new low? If they had the cash how could they could defend themselves….Joe, please make a poll….

Again these are not mature gals but not students… I am enjoying BA but do not hurt my sisters……

Maybe the person did loose $3k and suspected and pointed the finger at the wrong people. With as many people that do travel quite sure shit happens: stolen $$$. Moreover, this is second hand info. Remember an incident on a flight to EZE where an iPad came up missing and the Captain came on the PA and reported, " no one is disembarking this aircraft until this missing iPad problem is resolved. Law enforcement will meet us at the gate." End of problem.
And as pointed out, what the hell does Obama got to do with the event?

Yes, perhaps somebody could explain the concept of a "free ride from Obama" to a country in which the administration has shown virtually no interest. The US federal government is subsidizing a license to party in Palermo?

This sounds strange. If indeed you are carrying US cash, you might also want to carry a receipt showing that you have withdrawn that amount from your US bank (or exchange house, or whatever other source).

I don't worry about storing such amounts in our apartment, as we have a have a safe to which we have the only key, but we don't leave valuables in it when we're out of the country.
