I failed to mention why I said Obama. The cockier of the 2 girls told the Authorities that they were here on a Federal Program for US Teachers and she was going to report them. This is when they let them go. The other girl was going to give them the few hundred she had on her.I tried to paint the picture that they were not starving students(with mo money) nor mature folks that would stand up to the Authorities. They appear to be the perfect targets.

Perhaps you could provide us the name of this program, if it indeed exists, and what specifically Obama had to do with their being sent to Argentina.

While I'm not paranoid enough (nor is this frequent enough) to recommend this to people, if you are going to photograph bills or make a note of serial numbers - or just about anything, really - it makes sense to email it to yourself. That gives you a date and time stamp, which is hard to argue with.

Taking photos of an apartment when you move in/ out with that day's newspaper (and emailing to yourself) is also prudent if you are worried about your landlord keeping your deposit, which is a more likely scenario than this one... I say this as a landlady.

Evernote is also wonderful for keeping scans and copies of anything that might go missing - things that could cause you more grief than lost money (immigration papers, copies of passport and tickets etc).

Taking these little precautions if worried makes it easier to relax. It would be impossible and very time consuming to worry that every little scam here is going to happen to you, so the best thing to do is prepare yourself/ be discreet and then just chill out.

sigh. Normally it offends me when I see folks 'taking offence'at every little thing. Being offended is pretty much a choice. But for the word 'teabaggers' I make an exception.
