Anyone missed the police visit for the certificado de domicilio?

Hunh. I need the Certificado de domicilio, the police said they would mail it to me (I brought ID and a bill). Never got it, 2 weeks later. I guess I'll visit again.

@mageesa Today I went to the police station to receive el certificato de domicilio. At first they told me I should follow the procedure for extranjeros, and gave some URL where I can start. Then an Argentine friend told me I should have asked for el certificado de supervivencia, not de domicilio. These certificates are equivalent for some purposes but the difference is the police doesn't seem to like to give out the domicilio ones, but if you ask for supervivencia, they give it to you right away without any special procedure for extranjeros.

So I went the second time. A police lady made it for me but did not hand it to me. She said since I don't have a DNI she will mail it to by the indicated address with Correo Argentino. I was disappointed but said ok I'm going to wait.

Then I told what happened to my friend and he said it was unusual. Offered to accompany me. So I went the third time. And this time with the company my Argentinian friend the police gave it right away. All they needed was an ID and a rent contract.

All three visits happened today. I don't understand why they have to act so dodgy about these certificates. Anyways, I'm happy to receive one and perhaps my story can help somebody else.

I'm sorry to ask this but I've been here two years and never needed anything showing where I lived for any reason...
What are the reasons this needed?

It was equally random for me. First time a man said they'd mail it, then when it didn't come a woman just handed it to me. For my second address, the police looked at the delivery slip for a couch and my ID, and gave it to me with a smile. I get the impression this is not a process they deal with all that much, so they're it depends on who you talk to.

I just received my domicile certificate today as a visitor with a tourist visa and here is my story and how to get it:

- first I went to the police station, and they took my address and told me the police would visit to check if I am living there and deliver it.
- One week passed by, and I had no visit, so I went back to the police station and they asked if I had a rental contract, I said I am only staying in Airbnb, so they just did the same thing again, filling up an application and told me the police will visit.
- 2nd week passed by and no visit from the police, so I went to the police station for the 3rd time and told them this exactly since I am only using translation:

Hello,

I have come twice for two weeks to get my domicile certificate and the police still did not come to my apartment to give it to me.

I came two weeks ago and waited for a week, but no police came.

I came back last week, and they made a new request but no police came to my apartment.

It has been two weeks and I still have not received my domicile certificate, I really need this certificate of address to register my tax number with AFIP and I need it as soon as possible.

This is the third time I come here hoping for a solution. Could you please help me with the solution, I would be very grateful for your help.

- Guess what: they just stamped the domicile certificate for me and handed it right away.

I have to say that it was not my first time receiving this kind of certificate. In the past, about 1.5 years ago, I received the domicilio certificate, as opposed to the supervivencia, which I did recently. The difference was that in the past I was living in a different neighborhood and I had to wait for a police visit. And they did visit me, and did give it to me within a week after I applied for the certificate.

It all varies, it seems. However, intuitively, I think that if they say they're going to mail it to you, that means they just want you to go away and don't actually intend to mail it. If they say you should await their visit, then it's a bit more credible. In any case, there is nothing prohibiting them from giving it to you straight away.

They're supposed to verify where you live - that’s the whole point of the certificate. Otherwise, someone could easily get a certificate saying he lives in 'Casa Rosada,' for example, or in some other arbitrary place of his choice.
