Anyone renewed a precaria online lately? Aug 2026

Hi expat friends,

My lawyers tried to renew my precaria online last month, it still says it is under review. So it has been under review for over a month.

They called me today and said I will likely have to go in person to renew it.

Anyone else had experience at this?

It's a bit frustrating because every time I go to immigration, I wait online for 1 to 2 hours, and my process takes 5 minutes.

But I guess if it was easy everyone would be doing it.

Renewed one last month. You're supposed to request the renewal no more than 10 days (maybe 14... don't quite remember right now) before the expiration of the outgoing precaria. Sometimes the online system lets you do it with more time than that in which case the precaria request will sit unprocessed. If your precaria is about to expire your best bet is to go to Migraciones in person as soon as possible and find a friendly face who might be able to move it along.

I am about to renew my 4th precaria whilst waiting on renewing my temp visa (unreal) and every time I requested to renew online (15 days before expiry is when you can do that) it accepts the request and logs the time and date but never once has automatically actually renewed and therefore always required an in person visit to migraciones.

This 100% matches my experience last year lol (IME like 95% any online form you do here for anything still requires you to go in person)

Yeah its quite wild. I have almost completed another year temp whilst waiting on renewing the last years, not sure what the hold up is but had no updates or news at all just that it in the process still.

Same boat for me on waiting for my first DNI [with temporary residence approved like 8 mos ago]. With help from my lawyer, sent migraciones a strongly worded legalistic letter via certified mail to try to force them to speed things up

My guess is it has to do with executives orders trying to move migraciones approval, department cuts, executive orders getting shot down, process being moved back to a different branch, etc--but could be any # of things. Think the important thing is just making sure you've done everything correctly on your end

Yeah I heard its due to a massive shake up in migraciones plus staff cuts so who knows when they will catch up, its annoying not having a DNI to open up accounts etc tho

Ouch, that is a nightmare scenario for me. Renewal of my (first) precaria went smoothly and quickly, and not too long after that I got temp residency granted for 24 months. Now waiting for my (first) DNI..... I will need it in time for being able to ship boxes and furniture from Holland without having to pay import taxes....

I went today, arrived a little before opening and waited about 90 minutes. They let me renew but only for a month. They told me I need my September bank statement come back in September blah blah....

Wish we could do more things online.
