Argentina Me Too Movement

It should be illegal to publish the name of someone who is accused, but not found guilty. Many countries already do this for children. It should extend to all people. This will prevent the attention media circus from starting. And, without the media circus, these false accusations of rape will likely stop. One of the leading reasons for false accusations of rape is attention seeking and sympathy. If the accusation is not broadly publicized, then the benefits from attention and sympathy get minimized until a guilty party is found.

One of his accusers recanted. Said she had made up the whole story. Even so he was lucky to have been confirmed - and the media will forever bring up the accusations.

First death reported of a goverment councillor who was publicly accused on social media of a rape that happened many years ago .
This trial by media and social networks reminds me very much of the salem witch hunt lunancy in the United States where the crowd gets all riled up and then everyone is fair game .

One of his accusers recanted. And Anita HIll never recanted.

And never mind if they're guilty, right?

Was there proof of his guilt? Or was it an accusation backed up by the lies of someone who later admitted that she had lied? The law requires more than a mere accusation to prove guilt.

One area where MeToo could be important is to let women know they have a support system available if they report rape. It's getting lost somewhere, though, because it should be about encouraging reports when a woman is raped and not afterwards. This could be very useful as obviously proving guilt in the immediate aftermath of an assault is easier than several years later. We absolutely need to find a clearer system whereby these people are properly punished for the crimes they committ. Trial by media and guilty before innocence cannot be that solution and MeToo should be striving for so much more. As usual though, the movement has been hijacked by people who see a way to further their own agenda.

The problem with trial by media is it leaves open a "what if" on both sides. What if he did do it, then of course she deserves a voice and to not have to carry that burden without it being acknowledged. What if he did not do it, his reputation is marred and he has been falsely accused. Neither of these is an optimal scenario which is why early into the movement, MeToo is a conceptual failure.

It is illegal. The SC follows the real malice doctrine of the SC of the US plus it is a crime.
