Argentine V. Argentinian

Gallego couldnt possibly be an insult though, i was in Galicia some weeks ago and they were really the nicest people :)

See http://www.elmundo.es/elmundo/2008/05/16/espana/1210973641.html. There were some seven volumes of Chistes de Gallegos before the appearance of Los Gallegos Contraatacan: Chistes de Argentinos.

They can't get too picky. They do some awfully retarded things like calling all Americans yankees and all Spaniards gallegos.
There is a difference though: When an Argentines call Spanish " gallegos " they know they hate it and continue to do so jokingly, however when they refer to Americans as " yankis " it has a clearly negative connotation.

This is kind of like calling all Spanish speakers "Mexicans".

Like Nikad, when I saw it I do it jokingly*, however when most other Americans do it, it tends to have a negative connotation.

*NOTE: Los Argentinos don't usually think it's as funny as I do . . .

. . . and that's usually what makes it so funny.
