Argentinian Women

Wow, I am Argentinian and I don't know what to say. Great comments!

There are a lot of wonderful sweet Argentinian women but many of them are also rather self-obsessed. Appearance is so important in this country. Women know how to attract but not how to seduce. They often like to be treated as something pretty, some kind of ornament to be carried around. It's true that we are extremely caring but this is partly because there is a culture of mothering men. I don't think it's healthy. Having said that, local men leave much to be desired. The macho culture is so deeply-rooted... oh don't get me started.. if men here behave the way they do, it's because women allow it.

@Brunette36

100% agree.

It takes two to tango (sorry)

It's very sad but I reckon they have never experienced anything different. What do you expect?

Its a complex mix in my opinion of religion, politics, familial and tribal dynamics but in a rapidly globalising world its changing. Argentina is probably where Britain (my heritage) was 40 years ago in the way men and women treat each other. But you can find plenty of disrespectful irresponsible British/Gringo men!

I dated English men for a period of 10 years and they were all fantastic. I have no idea what they were like before I was born. Argentinian men have always disappointed me. My friends back home (Tucuman) all married the stereotype of the Argentine w@nker. These women are beautiful and sweet and deserve something better. Why they put up with all the cheating and lying beats me. You know what they say in Argentina: billetera mata galan.

Can't help but chime in here. Some generalizations. I might be biased because I am married to a great woman from here, but in my opinion women here make great companions for life. They are into family and usually hope to form a family once married, do not care how much money you make (generally speaking), and can be very fun-loving but still aren't afraid to put in the hard work that it means to build a marriage and a life together. I think women here can be very passionate, and some of them also might be hysterical I guess, but at least they are not boring. While it's true there is a lot of pressure on women here to look good and unfortunately this culture so often objectifies women as sexual objects, on the flip side, I am appreciative that my wife doesn't let her body go and she still tries to look attractive for her husband (although I value my wife mostly for other reasons). I see that this scenario often repeats itself in many marriages here. Also, I see that women here are proud of feminine characteristics and don't apologize for it. I think on the whole the women here are good women and it's a shame the guys here can't wake up and see what they have instead of just always trying to fulfill hedonistic desires or being too silly to commit to someone.

There is the odd crazy woman here and there, but for the most part I find them pretty normal. Argentines in general are passionate, sentimental, and emotional people. If you don't like that kind of thing, then here you will have to search harder for someone who doesn't fit that mold. There are a lot of criticisms about the women here, but if I had a son I definitely would not mind if my son brought home an Argentine one day to marry.

I am Argentinian and pretty much the kind of woman you describe in your post. I can also tell you that if you hold certain values, you are likely to surround yourself by people who are like you so I am not surprised your wife and the local women you socialise with are the same. My friends are like your wife as well. They are not happily married, though.

On the other hand, I have seen so much competition and jealousy among women...

Ah yes, jealousy and possessiveness.
They are certainly that, but I see that and the drama queen aspect as part of their make up and not to be taken too seriously.
