Attempted mugging near the Abasto

I was jumped by two teens at Cabildo and Sucre last year at 10pm, four blocks from my apartment. Unfortunately for them they tried to rob a US Marine verteran. The long narrow key to my apartment door lock did a lot of damage to the first knucklehead and I managed to break the second idiot's wrist, and maybe his elbow (not sure) in a move I learned from watching MMA. They took off. City Police showed up just as they disappeared and started to interrogate me. I played dumb. They let me walk off. Your mileage may vary.

I think that working within the rule of law, the government should deport people who overstay their visas when they are encountered. Of course, people (myself included) are going to take advantage of something like this that is allowed.

That would really screw over the self-employed and otherwise "nontraditional" among us who could not qualify for any mainstream residency status.

I'd be curious to know exactly what you did and said when the police arrived in order to convincingly play dumb.

On top of that, the attitude of Argentines where if you get robbed YOU must have done something wrong, doesn't help either.

Well this statement is a load of crap!!!!

The pessimism and negativity on this forum puts me off coming back sometimes. I understand this is a far from perfect country, many problems, shit government but you only have one life. So live it! If you hate BA then go home and be happy. Negativity gets you nowhere. Not just picking on this one comment, just happens to be one that pushed me to write this.

Glad to hear the person didn't get robbed in the end though!!! ; )

I'm not Argy by the way ; )

I told them that the two guys started to fight each other and I jumped in to break it up. That explained my skinned knuckles. "Next time I should probably just let them fight and call you guys (police) instead, huh?"
