Banned from entry for 8 years

Even after you've demonstrated your abiding by the law by voluntarily leaving after staying only 2 weeks recently in Feb 2026?
I did not know that you did't pay the overstay fee. (As someone mentioned)

Thought that your second short 2 weeks stay in Feb was your receipt that you regularized your standing.

Now it seems that that 2nd short entry was the exception ,,, not the rule.

The decision was baked in the system for a long time. Dormant waiting to explode any time.

Overstay fee is an absolute trivial amount of money to regularize your standing.

Now more than ever l believe that Immigration Officers do not exercise their absolute discretion (which they have). The system forced them to take action.

Not paying overstay fee amount to contempt of the law.

Could it be you were already banned 2 years ago for 10 years? It appears the usual ban terms are 5 years, 10 years and forever. Maybe overstaying a digital nomad visa is processed differently than overstaying a tourist visa?

According to the following link these are the most common reasons for being denied entry:
1. No matching visa for your intent (e.g. your intent is to work and you have a tourist visa)
2. Border runs and overstays
3. Bans (which are not always communicated to you, but you may find out when you try to reenter)

The video also mentions that once a ban is in place, it is hard to appeal.

Fear not. Bajo-Cero is currently online and is no doubt about to tell us all we and our friendly neighborhood AIs have no idea what we are talking about and will probably tell you what your options are.

How many times has he already provided the answer that the best option is to "apply for citizenship," especially to avoid deportation.

He often advised an overstay in lieu of a "visa run," at least for those who were not considering citizenship for one reason or another.

Unfortunately, I don't think that he ever said that it's possible to apply for citizenship outside of Argentina, and that's obviously not possible for someone who has been banned from reentry.

Perhaps it is possible to to apply for temporary residency at an Argentine consulte, but it's my best guess is that the current ban will remain in force until it expires.

I guess I should’ve done that in lieu of paying the overstay fee. The immigration officer did inform me that marriage to an Argentine would allow me back before the ban end date (I did mention my argentinian partner and was on the phone to them to ask for advice). The officer was quite surprised when I pulled an engagement ring from my bag. Both a proposal and my birthday ruined this weekend.

From a personal perspective I’ve come to develop an Argentine part of my personality and life but I guess that’s now ripped away along with the sizeable foreign currency I was spending in the country.

I feel it’s a loss to both sides and that’s just such a shame

At least you have a potential and eventually happy solution to this unfortunate situation.

I imagine that you would have to marry outside of Argentina and apply for temporary residency at an Argentine consulate...obviously not any easy task compared to doing it in Argentina.

I hope it all works out for you, and somehow, at least in some way, that you have a happy birthday.

That would correlate with the entry ban end date being 8 years after my last exit rather than 8 years after today. Would have spent my birthday weekend in Buenos Aires but I’ll be in my 40s by the time that’ll apparently be possible again
Did you pay the overstay fee at any time?

Yes, I paid at the airport when I left the overstay
Now we're back to square one.

Your 2 weeks re-entry and exit is a receipt that you regularized your status and you were not flagged in the system.

Means:
Even if your current immigration status has been regularized,,,,,, Any previous issues in the past will continue to hunt you forever. All it takes is a bad luck with a zealot Immigration Officer in a bad mood.

Here's a link regarding a question about a similar situation which occured in April of 2025, well before the new decree was announced or went into effect:

Thread 'Any insight about registering civil union online and applying for a visa from abroad?' https://baexpats.org/threads/any-in...ne-and-applying-for-a-visa-from-abroad.48798/

And here's the link to the reason for the question:

Conclusion:

2 district immigration status'
Tourist status. vs Family Union status.

If entering Argentina to live with a partner ,,, you should never admit that (no matter how regular your tourist status). You're better off lying ,,,, using (abusing) the tourist status correctly to the tee ,,,, until such time you formalize Family Union status.

Can't mix and claim both Tourist and Family Union simultaneously at the same time .

One and only one status at a time

Now it is all clear, what went wrong.
