I'm going to Bariloche for about 6 full days at the end of February. We are going to travel by bus so if the ash is still a huge issue with flights we should be fine.

I don't really know that much about the area really so I was hoping someone who's been there or lives there could give me some tips on must do's, must see's and must eats!

I know 6 days may be too much but I'd rather be doing nothing in fresh air than doing nothing here in the city. I've heard good things about San Martin de los Andes and Villa La Angostura, would they be good for day trips or maybe going for a night? Any recommendations would be must appreciated!!! :)

I live here, but I don't get to do much between working and taking care of 3 young kids. Jez can probably help you with what you can do. As far as what you must eat... I haven't found any really good places yet. I personally think the food in Bariloche is not great at all.
I've been to San Martin de los Andes and it didn't seem too much to do there. It is much smaller than Bariloche. I don't know how much Villa La Angostura has recovered yet since they were hit pretty hard.

This should get you started, ask if you have any specific questions....

6 days in not too much, I've been living here for almost 5 years and still find places that amaze me:

Wow thanks so much for all the tips!!! :) I'm really excited to breathe in some fresh air!

La Fonda del Tio! Wow, that brings back a lot of memories! I lived in Bche during the late 80's, and just a few block from the place. Huuuge fried empanadas. But I think my digestive prowess has faded with age....
