The other option rather than going 5-6 hours to the coast is to go to one of the clubs in San Isidro / Tigre for the day. Here's an article with some, there's also a bunch of clubs in Acassuso / Peru Beach where windsurfers hang out. Be aware that any of the prices in the links below may be far out of date (ie if it's from 2010 triple it at least, 2012, double it... unless it's in USD).

I do not think that you need any special visa for Uruguay. There are no good beaches in Argentina. However Pina Mar can be fun if you are there to party. Just avoid the water, it's cold.

Pick a hotel with a spa and a heated pool

Have a walk on the beach but only if you are brave.......

Beaches in Argentina are not that bad. It happens that Uruguays and Brazils beaches are way better. But dont hesitate and go to the Arentine coast. Pinamar and Carilo best options, Mar del Plata too crowded.

For Sara If you can go to Uruguay , cross the Charco on the Slow BQB boat to Colonia on deck, Cheaper and faster than Mar del Plata, find a nice Hosteria, rent a bike and enjoy the Beach. You will Have a tremendous Rate of Success...... :wub: In Mar del Plata or Pinamar you will be one among 200k.. B)

Everyone in this world is not lucky to hold a Tier 1 US or UK passport allowing visa freee travel.
