According to the arbolito where I go to change money (and I had to yesterday unfortunately), the deal with China is the culprit for this. He said some of the money came in from China and the Argentine government immediately used it to kill the blue dollar price.

If this is the case, seems to me this downward, artificial trend will not last very long.

He thinks when this round is finished it will pop up to 18.

I still stand on my "15 by end of year".

Do you know that the deal with China if for 11 billion US Dollars? And what about the grain money that is coming (600 million US dollars in 1 week, 5 billion in total)? I personally would not thrust an arbolito.

It might be 15 by January or Febraury, but as soon as you see the picture in the cover of Clarin of Kicillof and Singer smiling and shaking hands, blue dollar will be dead shortly.

Do you know that as of today, the monetary base divided by the reserves gives an exchange rate of 19.80$ ? We have all seen this movie before. Bring on the popcorn... Sadly, this group of inefficient corrupts has ruined the country yet one more time...

The corrupt politicians are the symptom. We are the problem. It is our fault.

Oodles of misconceptions here today. Just a couple of clarifications:

1. Payment to the Vulture Funds will have a negligible effect on the Blue, which is a function of sloppily applied capital controls to prevent capital flight. These capital controls were in place far before the latest chapter with the buitres became an issue, and they will most likely be there far after.

2. The Kirchners being corrupt has very little to do with inflation and the Dollar Blue. This is a government with a decidedly Keynesian fiscal policy that emphasises demand-side stimulus spending to the detriment of the peso. You can like or dislike this policy, you can call it "handing out choripans" or what not, but it's got precious little to do with how the K's have enriched themselves personally.
