A sad ending for someone who did so much for Bolivia. Had he been content with this lawful two periods, he would go down in history as a hero. Now, all that most people will remember is his desperate cheating to cling to power.

If the armed forces in Chile had suggested that Pinero step down and he had done so, the left here would have said that wasn't a coup, it was just the army supporting the will of the people. That's exactly what happened in Bolivia. Evo asked the people to vote in a referendum and they clearly stated that they not want him to go against the constitution and continue in power. He then pulled a institucional coup and got the supreme court to say that he could indeed run again, regardless of how "el pueblo" had voted. And because the people had already made their will known and that scared him, he perpetuated voting fraud, a second type of coup. I say good riddance.
