Australia has already instituted a two week quarantine for anyone coming from ANYWHERE outside Australia.

Alberto Fernandez is looking into locking down Buenos Aires very soon . Australia and the USA will also implement full quarantines of major cities.

According to the sub-heading, it looks like the quarantine would apply to the entire country:

"El Presidente anticipó que el Gobierno podría determinar "hacer un corte" durante una semana en todo el país para frenar la circulación del virus"

AND I HOPE IT STARTS BY TOMORROW (MONDAY) MORNING, OTHERWISE THERE COULD BE A WILD SATMPEDE OF PEOPLE OVERRUNNING (AND POSSIBLY LOOTING) GROCERY STORES

I don't read fluent Spanish. What exactly does this mean?

"President Alberto Fernández announced this Sunday that the Government is analyzing the announcement of a total cessation of activities in the country to prevent the spread of the coronavirus in the face of winter, although he admitted that this measure would have significant negative consequences in the economic sphere.

"We are analyzing making a cut. Determine that for a certain period of time all the people stay at home. If we could make all the people stay at home for a whole week, we could stop the virus. But we must bear in mind that everything This has economic consequences, "said the President.

In this sense, he remarked that Argentina is "in recession": "We cannot let it deepen. Therefore, taking a measure such as stopping everything for 10 days so that people stay at home can generate many complications."

"People have to charge the same, because they will not die of coronavirus but they will starve," he said.

In dialogue with Radio 10, the Prime Minister reported that, in this regard, he is evaluating a series of measures with Economy Minister Martín Guzmán, about which he did not want to give further details.

Mauricio Macri's message about the coronavirus: what he said about the government's measures
"We must guarantee the salary for those who stay at home by order of the State and guarantee soft loans so that those who stop producing can survive," he stressed.

In any case, he expressed that "everything that people can do by not circulating, must be done."

"If they tolerate their absence at work, then stay. The virus circulates because we circulate," he added.

The Prime Minister maintained that the Government is evaluating and following the situation "minute by minute", while he announced that this Sunday afternoon the committee of experts in coronavirus will meet to evaluate future measures to prevent the spread of the pandemic in the country.

"We are monitoring the whole issue very carefully. We have to be very sensible," he said."

Thank you.

The borders will still be leaking. Only non-residents coming from US, Iran, Italy will be turned away. The ban will last only 30 days, then, presumably the gates will be open again.
It's always the exceptions that kill plans like this.
Two cousins wrote to me, one in the New York City area, one in Croatia. Both said they felt like they were in a science fiction movie with shops closed, streets empty, food scarce. No reports of zombies yet.

Why would the ban be lifted after 30 days? The situation should be much worse by then. Here in the UK, the number of cases is expected to peak in around 10-14 weeks. I assume it will be the same in most other countries

Totally agree, this is puzzling

he said presumably. of course it would stand to reason that if the situation is worse that they'll extend it.
