Buying With Cash In Uruguay To End.

Assets like cars and houses over USD5k will have to be paid by transfer, cheque....but not cash as from May next year in Uruguay.
I wonder if such a law would be passed here, instead of stuffing wads of notes in our underwear?

It would make the system SO much cleaner (ie legal) but I don't really think that the govt wants that! Suddenly their own money trails would be so much easier to follow as well....

Italy has done that years ago. Actually it is illegal in Italy to have more than 1000 euros on your person or in your home. I always told the wife , a title service would be a good business here if they would allow it. I have a friend here who is a real estate developer. He has told me stories of going to closings will a duffel bag with over a million dollars cash in it.

Yes 1000 Euros. No one is following it. But if the Guarda Di Finanza decided to enforce it they could. I have been lectured by my bank branch about it trying to withdraw over that limit. I have had to adopt strategies to withdraw smaller amounts over several days to keep under the radar. Big brother watching ? Yes........
