Calling It Quits In Ba After Five Years

Agree. Because of the ridiculously low fiscal value, there are now fair market values estimates and the AFIP will not allow you to register the house for less than that. In practice in means that you could have an 80% in white and 20% in black real estate deal but never something where the "white" part is only 20% of the value.

Maybe in Cap Fed but not outside of it. We looked at land within the last year and the appraised value was only a few hundred thousand pesos. The unofficial price was a few hundred thousand dollars.

ETA - To be fair though, the owner decided she didn't want to sell after all so I don't know how it would have played out.

How the tine has changed. When I spoke of the problems and risks here expats lambasted me. Now people are fleeing.

I paid all in white, and was happy to do it. But that was in 2007 or so, and prices were lower then. Still, call me a fool, but I tend to believe in obeying the law, and I had very good advisers who took me thru the whole process, quickly, painlessly, and relatively cheaply. So I am pretty much ok, as far as AFIP goes, when and if I decide to sell.

(which I have no intention of doing- I am certainly not "fleeing", but, instead, working hard to be able to spend more time in Argentina)
