cell phones in BA/good hostels

Hola!
My gf and I are traveling to Buenos Aires and have yet to find a good international /local cell phone plan! Ideally it would be to call locally, and for emergency international incoming and outgoing calls. I also would need to either rent or buy an international phone.PLease any recommendations at all of good plans would be much appreciated!!

On another note, we are late planners and were GOING to stay in an apt for a week but decided it might be cheaper to stay in a hostel until we find an apartment. Obviously , it's late to book for this Wednesday night, but we need something! Any recommendations of good, safe hostels?!

When i first arrived in Argentina i stayed in Giramondo : http://www.hostelgiramondo.com/

It s well located in the middle of Palermo, the staff was friendly, i felt so good i stayed 2 month there. It s 2 blocks from Sante Fe where with many bus lines and subway. At night, there are a lot of bars to socialize and it s not far fom Plaza Serrano. Be aware that the ladies working in the surroundings at night might not always be ladies tho

you dont say how long you are here for...

Note: any cell phone you buy here will not work in any of the adjacent countries (Chile, Bolivia Peru, Brazil etc..). you will need a Tri (?) or Quad band phone and buy a prepay chip in each country.

buy a PREPAGO cell phone (from AR$ 150 ?? ) and top up with cards, available from most kiosks.

you will be able to make local calls, receive calls internationally and make international calls??

rates just went up so it is expensive to call locally and crazy to call internationally. For international calls look for a locutorio as the rates are cheaper.
