Charles Schwab - need information

I occasionally will take out money at an ATM with my Schwab card here if I need cash quickly and am between WU transfers. I've always been reimbursed the fee at the end of the month
I'm wondering if US banks and brokers will start looking at foreign atm transactions and other charges to see who is living outside the US.

Not Charles Schwab, but I straight up told my credit union that I live abroad and they didn't even bat an eye.

I still have a permanent address in the US so I just give my banks a travel advisory.

I still prefer to keep ATM withdrawals to a minimum and will continue to use WU to get anything that's more than "mad money".

Have you tried to withdraw USA $$$ from an ATM here in Argentina? I heard you could do it, but I haven't tried yet. If you can, that might make it cheaper then Western Union transfers to do a wire transfer from the USA to my Santander USA dollar account, and then pull out USA $$$ from the ATM and then call my favorite exchange guy to convert it to pesos. However, now that the real bank rate is almost the same as the blue, it might not make it worth the effort.

Ahh interesting, I hadn't thought to do that, that's a good tip in case things change! Thanks!

I think to withdraw dollars from an ATM here, you need to have dollars in an account in Argentina to begin with. You can’t just withdraw dollars directly from a U.S. account.

Yes, what I was thinking of doing is doing a wire transfer from my USA bank into my Santander USA dollar account. Then I would use an ATM in Argentina to pull USA $$$ out of my dollar account, then convert it into pesos with my cambio guy. I think wire transfers are $25 USA within the USA, I don't know if wire transfers from the USA to another country are more costly, but if it's only $25 it's cheaper then the $60 that WU has been charging me.

Now that the cepo is over, you don’t really need a cambio guy. You can exchange dollars electronically and have the pesos deposited straight into your account. Banks now buy and sell dollars directly, and the rate is about the same as the blue rate.

My bank charges $50 for international wire transfers.
