Cheap phone

Hi

I am going to have to purchase a phone for use while motorcycling through Argentina, Chile and Bolivia. Being far from a phone expert event at home, can anyone suggest a good place to buy a second hand phone? It doesn´t need to be fancy, just enough to make calls if I get in to some trouble. Also, does anyone know how easy it will be to use a phone bought here with a SIM card for Chile and Bolivia when I go to those countries?

you probably want an unlocked gsm phone. (see this post by kds1505: http://baexpats.org/expat-life/4315-unlocked-cell-phone-help.html#post23689 ) then purchase a prepaid sim card once you get to chile & bolivia. Or you can use your argentine SIM there and pay the international roaming rates.

the argentine pay as you go cards are pretty easy and really cheap. movistar, claro or personal are are pretty similar (let me know if someone disagrees) and since it is pay as you go i'm pretty sure there are no roaming charges.
