Chinese Trains Arrive In Buenos Aires

I wouldn't call the subway system in Mexico City "beautifully maintained", but in the last 5 to 10 years the subway system here has gone downhill. It seems they've gotten a bit better after the city took over the cost of the subways.

If you want to see a real contrast, try Santiago's spotless Metro: see http://southernconeguidebooks.blogspot.com/2012/12/comparative-urban-amenities-southern.html and http://southernconeguidebooks.blogspot.com/2010/10/underground-race-buenos-aires-trails.html for example.

It's interesting to contrast current rates for taxis to what you quoted in that second link, from October 2010.

You cite the charge to "bajar la bandera" as going up from $4.60 to $5.80; today I think it's $11.20

You cite the charge per increment of distance as going up from $0.46 to $0.58; today I think it's $1.10 although you might have made a typo when you said per 100 meters, it's per 200 meters isn't it, at least today?

So, all things noted, that was 3-and-a-half years ago, if we assume the prices have roughly doubled, that's something upwards of 25% inflation per year, no?

On a marginally-related note, when did the streetcars disappear? I actually saw a remaining section of track in the middle of the street when we were walking around between places Wednesday night. I can only imagine how much worse BsAS traffic congestion would be if they still had a rail service at street level. Dodging the cars and pinches colectivos is bad enough for a pedestrian, having to watch out for streetcars too would be information overload.

Oh yeah, and per your suggestion I sent 50 USD via PayPal to Janak, to help with disaster relief in Chile after the big fire.

China will become a vulture government.
They are developing a Blue Water Navy. Maybe they will lay siege to Mardel in the summertime and prevent anyone from leaving the city.

Hot Time - Summer in the City!

Argentina cannot default with China because the usd is not the only way yo desl with international commerce and China is interested in soy instead of usd.
However, it is off topic.

Funny, think I would be more worried about China defaulting with Argentina:
