Communiqué from Vizzotti and the ministers of health throughout the country
"The health authorities are more united than ever"
The Minister of Health, Carla Vizzotti, and the health authorities of all the jurisdictions of the country expressed this Saturday, in a joint pronouncement, that they are "more united than ever to build on what has already been built, with a view to correcting everything that is needed to improve access to vaccines" against the coronavirus.
In a statement, the ministers in turn rejected the voices that question "the entire functioning of the vaccination system in Argentina."
"It is time to value what we have, to build on what is built and achieve maximum cooperation: we are taking care of the health of every Argentine," Vizzotti said, summarizing the spirit of the statement through his Twitter account.

The text is signed by the Minister of Health of the Nation, the representatives of the provinces and that of the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires, Fernán Quirós.
The holders of the health portfolios stressed that they are working in a "united and consensual way, prioritizing public health with a federal approach" since December 2019 "without regard" the "political or party identities, because the only flag is health policy."
"We see, however, that in recent days voices have emerged whose visible interest is to generate divisions where there are none, and questioning the entire functioning of the vaccination system in Argentina," they warned.
Following this line, the ministers pointed out that restrictions on international access to vaccines "lead to the fact that, when prioritization of some sectors, others are postponed, until the next shipment arrives."
"That's why consensus is so important when defining those priorities. While on issues like this it is impossible to achieve absolute consensus, it is possible to differentiate reasonable questions from malicious criticisms," they added.
the ministers highlighted in the statement the "complexity" involved in organizing the arrival of coronavirus vaccines in a country that "has a federal system of government and a fragmented health system," while stressing that "Argentina's Immunization Program is a leader in the Americas, and America in turn is a leader in the world."
"Beyond all the mechanisms that the State can use, health workers are the golden link for vaccines to reach the target population, because Argentina is a very large and unequal country," they added.
In this sense, they affirmed that "vaccinators receive vaccines and apply them with effort, dedication, and above all, with a lot of love."
"Sometimes they do it in areas where there is no Internet, or where there are difficulties or few capacities to use computer tools, traveling long distances, in extreme climates, to name a few realities," they recalled.
Regarding the leadership of the Immunization Program of Argentina, they reviewed some of its achievements:
thanks to vaccines, no cases of polio have been reported since 1984, endemic measles since 2000, diphtheria since 2006, neonatal tetanus since 2007 and endemic rubella and congenital rubella syndrome since 2009.
"There have also been no liver transplants for hepatitis A in vaccinated children since 2007, as well as the 57 percent reduction in hospitalizations for pneumonia in children under five years of age since pneumococcal vaccination, and 82 percent in the lethality in children under one year of age for whooping cough since the vaccination of pregnant women," the Ministers of Health specified.
Argentina, in addition, is one of the first countries to incorporate HPV vaccination for girls aged 11 years from 2011 and boys since 2017, while it is also among the few that have the universal hepatitis B vaccine in their calendar, the officials stressed in the text.
"Today we are in the early stages of the largest vaccination campaign in Argentine history. As vaccines against Covid-19 arrive in our country, it is necessary to organize an unprecedented deployment of personnel for customs clearance, preparation, distribution, reception in the provinces, a new distribution within each province and the preparation of vaccinators and vaccinators, "they said.
Faced with this situation, the health authorities claim to be "more united than ever, to build on what has already been built, with a view to correcting everything that is needed to improve access to vaccines and thus reduce the impact on mortality of a possible second wave."
"We see what happens in the Northern Hemisphere, and that is why we know that it is necessary as soon as possible to vaccinate the population that is most at risk of dying. We call on everyone to measure the effort and achievements that Argentina is having in terms of vaccination. The health of Argentines has to find us all with our maximum cooperation behind that same objective," they concluded.
