Covid Vaccination Argentina

Please let me know who believes Pfizer demanded military bases as collateral - I've a great bridge in Brooklyn I'd love to sell.

I've also have an inventory of "buzones" in Argentina for sale.

I think I trust the officials in both Brazil and Argentina who noted this, along with the reputable investigative journalist group who broke the story and the hundreds more reputable outlets who reported on it... a lot more than your baseless assertion that it's all fake.

Military bases and glaciers etc were all ruled out as “fake news” by Minister Vizzotti and investigative journalism sources such as Chequeado. The “news” was traced back to a populist politician making exaggerated comments. The only reason Pfizer negotiations fell through is that the Argentine government decided to make a new law this year to govern the purchase of vaccines and this law included specific wording around “negligence” that was not acceptable to one of the parties. The new DNU overturning this spells out that being the true issue if it now results in Pfizer signing a contract. This was all covered in earlier posts with sources etc for anyone who wants to fact check.

It goes without saying that if Argentina had even 1.000.000 more vaccines (any vaccine) than it has had to date, less people would have died.
In any serious country there would be a public enquiry after the dust has settled to ascertain whether or not the government acted responsibly or not by effectively turning away vaccines offered to it for more than 6 months. In the meantime it is an ongoing issue.

Jorge Rachid was (or still is) an advisor to Kicillof on covid vaccination. So, I assume he had some internal knowledge about the negotiations with Pfizer. Since there is no hard proof of anything, whether to trust him or Carla Vizotti is a matter of personal choice at this moment.

After Delta, another variant of the coronavirus begins to generate concern: Epsilon. Experts are worried because it presents mutations
that reduce the capacity of antibodies in vaccines such as Pfizer and Moderna by between 2 and 3.5 times, according to a study published in
Science Magazine....Identified for the first time in California, the variant has not spread widely in Europe at the moment and there are only two cases surveyed, for example in Italy, according to the international bank Gisaid, which collects the genetic sequences of the virus....

...In America, the variant is found mainly in the United States and was also detected in Chile, Mexico and Argentina. According to the Argentine Interinstitutional Genomics Project (PAIS), by sequencing the entire genome, the Epsilon variant was detected in six cases: four from the province of Córdoba (three from Río Tercero and one from the capital of Córdoba ) and one from the capital of Santa Fe. According to the available information, none have a travel history or close contact with travelers....

....In May, the Epsilon variant had spread in 34 other countries and according to the Gisaid database for the last four weeks it is already present in 44 countries, such as the United States, South Korea, India and Japan.

If the minister of health of the Argentine republic doesn't know what she is talking about but an advisor of the governor of the province of Buenos Aires does, then what credibility does any of the national government's vaccination or COVID response campaign have? But still, some people still believe the earth is flat which apparently is also a matter of personal choice...

Oh, she does know what she is talking about. That was not the question.

About the same credibility as any other government campaign.
But still, some people still believe the earth is flat which apparently is also a matter of personal choice...
If the Clarin writes tomorrow that the earth is flat, I bet there are plenty of people who will easily change their views without even asking for any proof.

Negotiations with Pfizer also advance. Coronavirus: After the DNU, the signing of the contract for Moderna or Johnson & Johnson vaccines already has a date.
If everything goes normally, on Tuesday the first contract will be signed with a North American laboratory for the provision of vaccines: it will be with Johnson & Johnson or Moderna, the two that have already given the ok. The deal with Pfizer is also winding down, but it will not reach until Tuesday. "The needs of the laboratories were preserved and at the same time we supported the interests of the State", said this Saturday the Minister of Health Carla Vizzotti, about the DNU and the agreements. In parallel, also on Tuesday a donation agreement will be signed by the government of The United States to the government of Argentina of 2,500,000 doses of vaccines produced by the three North American laboratories. This agreement could not be signed without the agreement with the laboratories because guarantees and insurance were required. It is assumed that the donation agreement will be signed by an official of the State Department and the Argentine ambassador in Washington, Jorge Argüello. In parallel, there are rumors in the North American capital that Joe Biden would announce new donations.

Monday is a holiday in the United States and for that reason Argüello will stay until Tuesday to finalize the signatures. The Casa Rosada maintains confidentiality regarding the laboratory with which the first contract will be signed. However, sources from Pfizer revealed that this contract is still a few days away, so that on Tuesday the agreement will be with Johnson & Johnson or Moderna.

In both cases, the authorization of the ANMAT is still pending. The version is that the Argentine comptroller body would give the go-ahead in a few days, something that had been rumored. It is important in both cases for several reasons:
* Moderna is moving towards authorization to apply to minors.
* Johnson & Johnson is a single dose and would solve the problem with many people reluctant to sign up and get vaccinated.
* The two vaccines are candidates for a combination with those already applied in Argentina.

Of equal or greater importance is the signing of the agreement with the government of Washington. The quantities for the first shipment are clear: 2.5 million doses of vaccines from Pfizer, Moderna and Johnson & Johnson. In the United States they say they could still send them in July, but it will depend on the speed with which the contracts are signed and the vaccines are approved by ANMAT....
