Damn! Why Are Electronic$ $O Expen$Ive?

What are the prices like in Uruguay? Here in Mendoza there is the option to buy across the Andes in Chile (Santiago). A lot of people buy their electronic there ...

two options:
1. Look at mercadolibre.com.ar, lot's of bargain there. I don't know how importers managed but prices of electronics are more or less "normal" not as expensive as in these bloody expensive shops. I bought recently a printer and other stuff and they were "cheap" for Argie-standards.
2. Go to Chile or Paraguay with friends with a car and buy there all your electronics.

Mariano, I know you must already suspect....that we have one of the most corrupt customs (Aduana) organizations on the planet. Under this government we are now firmly established as one of the main narco traffic routes in the world, ....the contraband on mercadolibre is 'child's play' when comparing it to all the 'stuff' going through Ezeiza every day :) , yes it is sold at a lower cost alright, especially the more compact electronics like memory, pen drives, SSDs, etc etc.

Not just electronic$: children's toys.

Don´t read the news much?
21% IVA on everything
plus import tax
plus import restrictions.
It could be worse, you could be in Brazil. Electronics even more expensive.

A small correction -- most computer components have the 10.5% IVA rate.

The gov't basically forced companies to open plants in TdF if they wanted to sell anything in Argentina. But since the skilled labor is lacking, yes, basically everything is made in China, shipped into BsAs, sent down south and then they simply reassemble it there and then ship it back up north . It's ludicrous.

Oops -saw that was already posted by Denis. But yep, thank the gov't for the costs.

And at no extra charge your new AR computer contains a processor that is obsolete with a generous 2GB SDRAM running on a basic operating system. A bona-fide piece of junk.
