I know this site http://www.pueblerina.com.ar/ they have a big database, with transportation, activities, pictures,hotels, restaurants, of small towns close to Buenos Aires city.

Make sure you check the situation with the autopista blockades. I went to La Plata last week with my folding bicycle and it took over 3 1/2 hours to arrive as the highway was blocked. Luckily for me I drank a 500ml bottle of coke before the trip to insure agony.

It's a 3-hour drive (so a very long day, or maybe an overnight trip - I usually stay over there just on a Sat night?) but Rosario is AMAZING. I've thought about moving there more than once. It has a lot of the best of BA (a true, urban city, and all of the culture, life that entails), without the worst (cleaner, safer, more tranquilo) - with a great river-front, beach, etc...

Oh, I've been there... great place for anyone interested in architecture and urban history. I'd probably go back just to stay at the Savoy Grand again!
