Democrats Abroad In Argentina For Bernie Sanders

During a campaign stop and fundraiser in New York yesterday, Hillary Clinton was asked by a young woman if she’d stop taking money from the fossil fuel industry. It was a simple question, one she could have easily answered with a "yes," or, perhaps because of the way she funds her campaign, responded with a "no."

Instead, she said she was "sick of the Sanders campaign lying" about the donations she receives.

Now, here’s the truth — the hard numbers don’t lie. And it’s something everyone should know as this video spreads online and is covered in the news: The fossil fuel industry has given more than $4.5 million to Hillary Clinton’s campaign and her top super PAC, including 11 lobbyists who have bundled more than $1 million to her put her in the White House.

Earlier in this campaign, Bernie Sanders and Martin O’Malley signed a pledge to refuse money from fossil fuel interests. No Republican added their name, which isn’t surprising given that they don’t believe climate change is real. But neither did Hillary Clinton. It’s time for her to distance herself from the Republicans on this issue and add her name.

Ask Hillary Clinton to sign the pledge launched by Greenpeace USA and 20 other organizations asking all presidential candidates to reject fossil fuel contributions, because you cannot be expected to take an industry on while you’re taking their money.

When we talk about our responsibilities as humans beings, there is nothing more important than leaving this country and our entire planet in a way that is habitable to our children and grandchildren. Donald Trump may believe that climate change is a hoax being perpetrated by the Chinese, but for almost everyone else, the debate is over. The scientific community is unanimous on this issue.

And what the scientists are saying is that we must boldly transform our energy system away from fossil fuels and into energy efficiency. Unfortunately one of the biggest obstacles to realizing that goal is a corrupt system of campaign finance that enriches the CEOs of fossil fuel companies at the expense of average Americans and our planet.

The easiest way to reject their influence is to refuse their money. And it would send a powerful message if the leading presidential candidates in the Democratic Party both stand up and say ENOUGH is ENOUGH, we are tired of fossil fuel companies regulating Congress with their campaign contributions and not the other way around.

Bernie has taken that pledge. It’s time for Hillary Clinton to join him.

Ask Hillary Clinton to sign the pledge launched by Greenpeace USA and 20 other organizations asking all presidential candidates to reject fossil fuel contributions, because you cannot be expected to take an industry on while you’re taking their money.

The United States must lead the world in fighting climate change. CEOs are making record profits, while climate change ravages our planet and our people. Refusing their money is the first step towards combatting their obscene influence.

I want to talk about what we did last night: after starting in the polls in Wisconsin down more than 40 points, we finished the election with a HUGE margin of victory. We're also going to come away with a strong majority of the delegates.

We are on the path to the Democratic nomination for president. But I want to be clear: super PACs and the billionaire class want to block that path in the New York primary.

We very much expect an unbelievable amount of attacks and negativity over the next two weeks. But I also expect that if we all stand together, starting right now, we can come out of New York with another victory.
One of the first sentences I wrote to our supporters after we launched our campaign was something few people heeded:

People should not underestimate us.

They did underestimate us. They did not think it was possible for millions of people to come together and win 16 contests on our path to the presidency.

It would be a mistake to let up for even a minute. An impressive, unprecedented number of people have contributed to our campaign and helped us get this far. We cannot stop now.

We are only as successful as we are because more than 6.5 million times, people have contributed an average of $27 to our campaign. Now, with a huge battleground primary coming up in New York, we need you more than ever.

In solidarity,

Bernie Sanders

Bernie Sanders Adds to His Momentum with a Big Wisconsin Win

You MUST see what CNN reported last night. It's very disturbing, and you need to know about it right now.

"The Clinton campaign has been watching these Wisconsin results come in, and the delegate race of course is tight there, but the reality is they're running out of patience. So they're going to begin deploying a new strategy, it’s going to be called disqualify him, defeat him and then they can unify the party later."

Disqualify him, defeat him, and unify the party later.

One more time. This is the Clinton campaign's strategy going forward: Disqualify Bernie, defeat our movement, and pick up the pieces later.

We have to get ready for the Clinton campaign's attacks. We're on the path to the nomination, and now they're going to try to block it with super PACs, billionaires, and everything else they've got.

Bernie's running this campaign a different way. We don't have a super PAC. We're not launching any negative attacks.

We're bringing together millions of people in a political revolution that has won seven of the last eight contests and breaks records at every turn. The political establishment hates what we're doing, and now it's clear the Clinton campaign is going to do everything in its power to stop us.

We can't let up now.

Make a contribution to our campaign right now and help us win the Democratic nomination and take our country back from the billionaire class.

We just got word that we won Wyoming's caucus. This is huge.

This momentum is just what we need in order to win New York's crucial primary in 10 days. But we also must know that the billionaire class is more scared than ever, and they don't want to see us win again. They want to stop us here and now.

Momentum is winning eight out of the last nine contests while bringing more and more voters and young people to our side as we talk about income inequality, climate change, universal health care, and our corrupt campaign finance system.

Momentum is proving again and again to the political and economic establishment that you don't need to have a super PAC in order to win the presidency.

This momentum is incredible – but you'll never imagine what our momentum can be if we win New York's primary.

Thanks for being with us.

You may not know how powerful you are, Janis, but you are incredibly powerful.

You are powerful enough to convince a former secretary of state to change her mind about matters as important as international trade and global climate change.

You are powerful enough that some of the wealthiest people in the world are prepared to spend billions of dollars to stop you.

You are powerful enough to win 16 of the first 34 states against the most inevitable candidate in modern political history.

Our power comes from a simple, timeless truth: when people come together, there is nothing we cannot accomplish.

This is the single most important two-week stretch of this Democratic primary and I know that if we continue to stand together and fight, we are going to win.

This is our moment.

I want to share something with you that is probably going to make you angry, but then I am going to give you an opportunity to do something about it.

For months, you've heard the Clinton campaign endlessly repeat in interviews and on social media that they have raised millions and millions of dollars for state parties through something called the "Hillary Victory Fund." They've even used it as an attack line to insinuate Bernie wasn't willing to help down-ballot Democrats.

Well, yesterday morning, thanks to a Politico investigation, we found out that less than 1 percent of the $61 million raised by the Victory Fund has stayed in state party coffers. And indeed, the majority of the money spent by the Victory Fund has gone to benefit Hillary Clinton's primary campaign against us. The piece said some state party fundraisers believe they are basically acting as "money laundering conduits."

There's more, but first let me get to the part where you can take action. In recent weeks, the Clinton campaign has expressed a lot of interest in what is important to Bernie's supporters. Here's your chance to send a message about our distaste for big-money in politics:

Sign our petition calling on the Clinton campaign to stop bending campaign finance rules to their breaking point, and immediately transfer all the money allowable to the state parties participating in the "Hillary Victory Fund." https://go.berniesanders.com/page/s/victory-fund?source=em160503-sub-d&utm_medium=email&utm_source=jeffweaver&utm_campaign=victory-fund&utm_content=petition

Here's how the scheme works for the Clinton campaign:

Rich people like Alice Walton of Walmart who have already contributed the maximum amount allowable to the Clinton campaign can contribute an additional $350,000-plus to the Victory Fund.

The first $33,400 of her contribution is supposed to go the DNC, and the rest divided up between participating state parties. But that's not what's been happening. The Victory Fund has mostly been doing one of two things with Ms. Walton's money:

1. Taking that money and spending it on advertisements and small-dollar fundraising solicitations. Then they take all the small-dollar contributions and data reaped from Alice Walton's contribution and transfer it directly to the Clinton campaign. This tactic is basically a way for them to benefit from a contribution much larger than the legal limit from Alice Walton.

2. They take Alice Walton's money and transfer it to state parties, who then immediately transfer it to the DNC. Often times they do it without the state party even knowing because the Clinton campaign controls many of the bank accounts involved. So at the end of the day, most of the state parties have received exactly $0 from their Victory Fund arrangement.

So, now that we know the Clinton campaign is taking advantage of state parties to skirt fundraising limits on her presidential campaign, it's time for her to do the right thing and let the state parties keep their fair share of the cash:

Sign our petition calling on the Clinton campaign to stop bending campaign finance rules to their breaking point, and immediately transfer all the money allowable to the state parties participating in the "Hillary Victory Fund."

It's unfortunate that Hillary Clinton has benefited from tens of millions of dollars in cash transfers and advertising to campaign against us in the primary. But it's not too late for her campaign to do the right thing by the state parties we're going to need to win elections up and down the ticket this November.

I'm sure if you sign our petition, that is something they will notice.
