'This Man Can Beat Trump': Sanders Viewed Most Favorably of 2020 Democratic Candidates

New Gallup poll shows Sen. Bernie Sanders has better image than Joe Biden in eyes of Democratic voters

Gallup released the results of the poll on Friday. It was conducted July 1-12, after first round of Democratic debates, and measured 10 Democratic White House hopefuls.

Sanders led the pack, with 72 percent of Democrats and Democratic-leaning voters viewing him favorably. Former Vice President Joe Biden followed at 69 percent. Rounding off the top half of the pack were Sen. Elizabeth Warren at 59 percent, Sen. Kamala Harris at 54 percent, and Sen. Cory Booker at 44 percent.

FOX News Poll: Bernie Sanders Would Beat Trump By 9 Points

A nationwide Fox News poll released Sunday shows President Donald Trump trailing Senator Bernie Sanders, 49 percent to 40 percent among all registered voters nationwide.

The Fox poll was conducted June 9-12, 2019 under the joint direction of Beacon Research (D) and Shaw & Company (R), this Fox News Poll includes interviews with 1,001 randomly chosen registered voters nationwide who spoke with live interviewers on both landlines and cellphones. The poll has a margin of sampling error of plus or minus three percentage points for all registered voters.

Sanders acknowledged on Sunday that "polls go up and polls go down" but insisted that the survey showed he was the strongest candidate to defeat Trump. "I think we can win in Pennsylvania, Wisconsin and Michigan and some of the other battleground states," Sanders said on "Fox News Sunday."

Bernie Sanders is riding in a caravan to Canada with diabetics to get more affordable insulin

The road to affordable insulin is ride or die for some Americans suffering with diabetes who have to ration their medicine or rely on donated samples from people they meet in Facebook groups. Presidential candidate Bernie Sanders, an Independent senator from Vermont, will be riding shotgun in a caravan to Canada on July 28 alongside Americans living with diabetes as they travel from Detroit to Windsor, Ontario in Canada to get cheaper insulin, his campaign announced Thursday.

Nystrom, 33, was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes when she was 13-years-old. She’ll be riding with Sanders and 15 others with diabetes on the third trip to Canada to buy insulin without insurance or a prescription at a tenth of the price in the U.S.

Buttigieg says white supremacy could be 'issue that ends this country'

South Bend, Ind., Mayor Pete Buttigieg (D) warned white supremacy could be “the issue that ends this country” in an interview with ABC News Saturday.

"That is the only issue that almost ended this country. … We’ve had a lot challenges in this country, but the one that actually almost ended this country in the Civil War was white supremacy," Buttigieg told the network in Iowa.

"It could be the lurking issue that ends this country in the future, if we don’t wrangle it down in our time,” he added.

"The entire American experiment is at stake in whether we can manage to deliver prosperity in a way that your race has no bearing on your income, your wealth, your employment opportunities, your experience with criminal justice [and] your ability to vote,” he added.

Ocasio-Cortez calls for an independent investigation into child separation policies

The representative said she wants a 9/11-style commission to review the Trump administration’s separation policy.

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez proposed a 9/11-style commission that would investigate family separations at the US-Mexico border during an immigration town hall in her home district Saturday.

The representative suggested a similar body be created to not just to understand the origin and effects of the Trump administration’s family separation policy, but to ensure families are reunited. “I think that that kind of study is what’s going to be required in order to reunite as many children with their parents as possible. That’s the work that we have to do,” she said.

The Trump administration was ordered by a judge to stop separating families at the border in 2018; however, separations continued well after that order was handed down. And although the administration has worked to comply with a court order to reunite separated families, thousands of separated children who were released from custody and placed with sponsors before that ruling weren’t covered by that order. Further complicating matters, the Department of Health and Human Services said in January it wasn’t sure how many separated children had been released before the reunification ruling; full reunification would involve tracking these children down, but it isn’t always clear where these children are.
 
American immigration policy is broken. From this morning's WSJ:

"While many Guatemalans seeking asylum in the U.S. cite fears of violence at home, a 2016 poll by the United Nations’ International Organization for Migration found nine of 10 Guatemalans said they emigrated for financial reasons."

Pursuit of asylum is a lie. The Democrats, in buying votes through their immigration policy, are unfit to solve this issue. Thank goodness for Republicans.

Mueller made one thing clear: Republicans are a national security threat

The integrity of American elections was compromised long before Donald Trump’s shocking victory in 2016, but former special counsel Robert Mueller’s testimony before Congress on Wednesday made clear that one political party is actively subverting attempts to protect our democracy.

Hours after Mueller testified about foreign election interference before the House Intelligence Committee on Wednesday afternoon, the Republican-controlled Senate moved to block four separate bills to defend the U.S. democratic process.

"Over the course of my career, I've seen a number of challenges to our democracy," Mueller said in his opening remarks. "The Russian government's effort to interfere in our election is among the most serious. As I said on May 29, this deserves the attention of every American."

“The Russians are absolutely intent on trying to interfere with our elections,” FBI Director Christopher Wray told the Senate Judiciary Committee on Tuesday.

Muller told the committee that the Russian effort “wasn’t a single attempt. They’re doing it as we sit here, and they expect to do it during the next campaign.”

Mueller says Trump could be charged with obstruction after he leaves office

Former special counsel Robert Mueller told Rep. Ken Buck (R-Colo.) at the House Judiciary Committee hearing Wednesday that President Trump could be charged with obstruction of justice after he leaves office.

The exchange:
  • Buck: "You made the decision on the Russian interference. You couldn't have indicted the president on that, and you made the decision on that. But when it came to obstruction, you threw a bunch of stuff up against the wall to see what would stick."
  • Mueller: "I would not agree to that characterization at all. What we did is provide to the attorney general in the form of a confidential memorandum our understanding of the case. Those cases that were brought, those cases that were declined. And the — that one case where the president cannot be charged with a crime."
  • Buck: "Okay. But could you charge the president with a crime after he left office?"
  • Mueller: "Yes."
  • Buck: "You believe you could charge the president with obstruction of justice after he left office?"
  • Mueller: "Yes."
Throughout the hearing, Mueller repeatedly referred to the Justice Department's Office of Legal Counsel opinion that prevents a sitting president from being indicted. Asked why he continued his investigation after determining that he would be unable to charge Trump, Mueller said that the OLC opinion does not apply once Trump leaves office and that other people involved in potential obstruction could also be indicted.
