Finally, A Real Breakfast In Buenos Aires!

I have missed this glory
My Argentine friends snear at my egg breakfast obsession. And then they ask for a bite...

Oh really? Let's review the facts.
Habeas Corpus is dead, Obama killed it formally, after Bush abused it to death in secret
Our First Amendment right to peaceably assemble is dead, Obama killed it.
The entire Fourth Amendment is completely dead.
We have secret courts, which meet in secret, and issue verdicts in secret.
US Citizens have been assassinated by Presidential decree, without judicial process. No conviction, no trial, no arraignment or even a formal charge. The sixteen-year old son of Anwar Awlaki, a native-born US citizen, was specifically assassinated by drone strike two weeks after his dad was killed. When asked why this was done, Presidential spokesweasel Robert Gibbs replied, "I guess he should have had a better father". Say WHAT?
And then we were treated to the incredibly bizarre spectacle of the US Attorney General trying to explain to us that due process does not necessarily mean judicial process. Whiskey Tango Foxtrot, over?

I ask you, what would George Washington have had to say about this? Robert Madison? Thomas Jefferson?

I am willing to concede that there are MANY problems with the gubmint in the US, but, oddly, I have no problem getting into my car at my house and driving wherever I wish to go in this country or bordering countries without interference from the police forces. I may never have to show my papers or demonstrate my desires or intentions. For that matter, I can get on an airplane and do the same thing with only a modicum of interference.

BTW, Bush and his cronies killed the right to assemble quite dead, long before Obama took office. And his presidency brought us closer to dictatorship than any other before or since. The Cheney/Rumsfeld Bush presidency met most all of of the definitions of fascism comfortably.

Maybe I'm lucky that I wasn't born with a semitic name, but I feel pretty secure that I won't end up in the back seat of a green Falcon. And I have learned from experience that it pays to know who you're associating with - no matter the form of government you live under.

Do I long for a president like Jefferson, Lincoln, Roosevelt (either)? Hell yes. Do I long for the Jeffersonian ideal of four years of government service (as opposed to professional politicians), then back to private life? Hell yes. Do I long for living somewhere without cronyism, police abuse, government catering to $$, having to pay a sh*tload for lousy health care insurance? Without doubt.

But calling the political situation in the US a dictatorship is beyond the pale, and insulting to dictators everywhere.

I think the issue is perspective.

The current state of the US is showing signs of a dictatorship. I was detained last year at Thanksgiving for refusing to open the trunk of my car at a checkpoint. They held me for almost 3 hours and were using "terrorism prevention" as a reason for wanting to search my vehicle. F*ck that! I know my rights and I stood my ground, respectfully. They finally let me go.

At the same time, this is nothing to what real dictatorships do. Let's not kid ourselves.

First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out-- Because I was not a Socialist.
Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out-- Because I was not a Trade Unionist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out-- Because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me--and there was no one left to speak for me.

So where did you hide the body?

Only on this forum can you start a topic talking about pancakes and end up talking politics.

Although I am a New York City native, I also lived in Charleston , SC for over 15 years and I've become pretty good in making Biscuits & Gravy. But what I really miss here in BA, is making my pancakes with real Maple Syrup. I won't be going back to the states until August, so if anyone can help out on how I can get my hands on some Maple Syrup that would be great. All suggestions welcomed.
