Finding Interesting Items For Sale On Mercado Libre

Why do I feel so empty?

Is it because I'm sterile?

On September 9 I bought this lamp for $249 pesos (knowing it was missing the two white glass "tulipas"). It has a nice patina and does not need to be polished.

Last week this one was listed for sale for $2200 pesos. Even though it is complete with the tulipas (which can be purchased new) it looks quite dark (and I would hate to polish it):

This one was listed today (Dec 12) for $3500:

Last week this solid bronze ceiling fixture was offered at auction with a base price of $2800. There were no bids.

It was relisted today at the new fixed price of $3200.

Three weeks ago I bought this one for the fixed price of $990:

And a week before that I picked this one off for $650:

This one was cheapest because it needs to be polished and rewired. It is the only one that included any alabaster "tulipas" but only three of them are in good condition. I'll use them on another lamp with only three (brazos) arms.

Alabaster tulips would have been included when the lamps were sold (new) in the 1960's.

If you look closely you'll see that these lamps have a "dragon's head" at the end of each arm.

At the moment there are dozens of similar lamps for sale in the $2,000 to $6,000 price range. The more expensive ones always include tulips, but so do a few that are priced below $3,000.

PS: the "floron" (flower) and "cadena" (chain) next to the tulipa in the third photo are used to attach the lamp to the ceiling and are often offered for sale in the $300-$400 price range (for both).

There are also a few lamps like the ones in my previous post that are priced in the $6,000 to $12,000 rgange.

Here is one for $25,000 (apparently brass boobs = high price):

These are nice Steve... They beat the hell out of the of the light bulb hanging from a wire in the middle of room I so often saw in BA.

I was just going through my list of "favorites" of over 400 items that I'm "watching" using an ebay expression). Well over 100 of my favorites are bronze ceiling fixtures similar to this one and the one's I've already purchased (I'm curious to see if any of the higher priced ones sell.).

This fixture is still listed for sale in an auction for $2200 (not $2800!). The seller may be trying to "psych out" a buyer to get bids on the auction. It's doubtful he/she forgot the auction is still active. Once a bid is made the seller (supposedly) can't cancel the auction...

This fixture is priced at $1750 and the listing is still active (43 of 60 days left) and is "typical" of the fixtures priced in the mid to high teens. It is identical to the one I recently bought for $990 (which included a floron and cadena).

And this one with soldadas (soldiers), priced at $4,600 without tulipas might be considered a "best buy" compared to the one with the Egyptian figures at $25,000:

I plan to use three (and perhaps five) of them in the living room with low wattage incandescent bulbs (and without alabaster tulipas). I think it will create a great effect.
