Free Health Coverage For All In The City Of Buenos Aires

Not every newcomer can afford OSDE 310. If they're young and well, they don't need it anyway.

most youngsters can afford hospital aleman plan for 500 pesos ( 40 usd).

I was against health insurance plans for most of my life. Till some incidents in my life made me do a volte face about the subject.

I like my plan here in URU it carries a 500k you need the USA clause. In other words we know where the real health care is and if you need it, its covered. But then again the plan is not cheap. Of course with the great social FREE Argie plan if you get a tumor in your eye the free plan in Argentina will gladly pluck out your eye and put a fake glass one in its place for FREE.

Free social medicine.. I think they have that in Valenzuela too only problem is they do not have any medicine. Like I said! Thanks but no thanks!

Source? Or you imagine that?

I advise anyone who cares about the quality of the healthcare they receive to avoid using the public hospitals. The doctors in the public hospitals are competent but the facilities are dilapidated, hygiene questionable and delays extensive because people from neighboring countries and provinces flood into CABA to take advantage of the no cost care. I highly recommend using the Swiss, German, or IADT hospitals.

I have to agree with this. I am personally very much in favor of public health care, and I think that having middle classes use public health care is one way that the system stays functioning, BUT here in Argentina, as a foreigner and someone can afford it, I think it is basically my duty to get private coverage. I do not need to be taking up valuable resources here. And, of course, I have a more comfortable experience. Yes, the doctors at Hospital de Clinicas are great, and many share their time between the public hospital and private practice, but I should not be taking up that time on the public bill.

I had a couple of experiences at Vicente Lopez public hospitals and the place is mostly falling into pieces.

The first time I went there to have a blood sample taken before getting married, extremely long queue and a room very crowded of small booth were they were drawing blood. The young lady taking mine excused her self because she was not a doctor or a nurse, just a biologist on training (?!).

The second time I went to get rabies shots and they also took my to the ER... Well people, I really hope I will never been taken to that ER in case of serious need. It was very basic, old, rusty, paints falling off the wall, questionable hygienic standards,...

I believe there are more modern and up to standard public hospital, the point is WHERE?!

And don't forget about the wait. And what goes on while people are waiting half a day or more to be seen.

Foreigners/tourists/passer-bys/first world passport holders/dollar holding guys.. who dont pay taxes here, have no business lining up to avail public health care.

As simple as that.

My advice would be if you're going to be in Argentina for a short period of time, get familiar with where the good public hospitals are (there are a couple I suppose) and stick to those in case of an emergency. Or just plan to pay out of pocket at a private hospital if something should happen. But if you're going to be here for months or years, definitely get a basic private healthcare plan. They're affordable and it gives you a lot more options and much better care/facilities. You don't need the most expensive plan, and there's a lot more freedom in being able to choose your doctor or see specialists.

The one time I went into a public hospital here was for the marriage blood test and the place was just sad. Very poor lighting, dirty, dingy... there was even a stray cat inside the building. The private hospitals I've been to were like hotels in comparison.
