Hi All,

Our dream is to move to BA but not sure if we'll be eligible for a visa with the rentista now out of reach.

We'd love to hear people's thoughts on how we could go about having a baby in BA as non-residents (i.e. living on a 90 day tourist visa).

We're not sure if we can get Argentinean medical insurance for maternity if we are non-residents (without a DNI etc). We're currently looking into international travel insurance with maternity in case it is impossible to obtain a local policy.

Would there be any known implications with my wife not having a DNI etc when trying to see specialists and delivering in an Argentinean hospital?

Thanks for your help!

I don t think you would have any issues if you get private insurance with a maternity plan, lots of expats living here on tourist visas do so, I know a few cases first hand and they had no trouble at all. Then if your baby is born here I believe you can get perm residency too.

I have insurance with hospital aleman and have never had anything other than a tourist visa. just make sure that when you sign up you tell them you plan on living here for several years, and you dont have to preten you have a job (if you dont), just need an address. yes, once you give birth here you get automatic perm residency- so mazel tov!

If you speak spanish (well, write), i can pass you the email of my person at hospital aleman and you can ask her any qustions- i am not sure if you can sign up and get preggo benefits when already preggo but worth asking.

im pretty sure that even if you come here and dont get private insurance a public hospital will be an option- probably better care than most american hospitals/health insurance plans and cheaper- i had kaiser which was horrible in the states so i wouldnt worry about coming here...

It's no problem having a baby here - they'll get citizenship and you can get permanent residency. You can get a private insurance plan with no problem as well. BUT, you must have the insurance for at least 1 year before they'll cover maternity costs.

We pay about $3000 pesos a month for private insurance for a family of three.

Dave is right, you must wait 12 months and in some cases 9 months before you get pregnant. You also have public hospitals, not fancy at all, but decent care and free.

im pretty sure that in the other baby thread from maybe three days ago someone said that for at least one of the private plans, maybe it was aleman or italiano, that you can be pregnant when you sign up...maybe search the baby threads?

i will just email my woman at aleman and ask her...i will let you know what she says...

hey! i just got medical care and dont have a DNI, but keep in mind that for the hospital aleman, you have to wait 2months and if you get pregnant earlier you have to pay 10 000 pesos! so it makes a difference! i got OSDE and all the they do is charge you if you are already pregnant per month but up to two months!!!
good luck!

the woman at Aleman apparently emails on Sunday nights- she is saying that Aleman and Italiano are the only health insurance plans that will work with women who are already pregnant (she must not know about OSDE). She is happy to send you guys an email about what their plan is (I don't think she speaks/writes English) and just needs the wife/baby carrier's age apparently....do you know Spanish, if so I can pm you her email address...lemme know..

I had my baby at Hospital Aleman. They accept us at the 8th months. We just had to pay an extra and take the most expensive plan. I paid 8000 pesos (if you get the plan earlier you pay less of nothing) plus the monthly plan of 2500 pesos for 2 adults plus the baby.
You can just pay for the birth but it is a lot more expensive: it starts at 40.000 pesos plus extras.
Regards
