I thought it was a very reasonable question - how do you know the details of this?

And then the OP got very defensive. Now I'm doubly suspicious.

I did not get defensive. I just got very irritated with the allegation. Aren't we all on this forum to share our experiences and this amalgamation of everyone experiences here, is what makes this forum as a excellent source of info. as it is. Has one of the many "mad dogs" running all over CF, come and bitten me that i will make up a story and then write it here. Don't I have better things to do in life?

The reason for sharing it was to let other expats know, what lies ahead for us. Now, their is no 'agenda' when I say that. It means, exactly, what i say.

You are 100% wrong on this. Its a law to carry your original id everywhere you go. Next, you will ask me where it is written. I do not know where it is written. But you can be asked to show yr original id anytime. And in fact, most of South AMerica is the same. If you do not have a DNI, you are supposed to carry your passport or a notarized copy of your passport with your passport main page and entry details in Argentina. And those days of feigning ignorance to Spanish and escaping from the police interrogation look clearly over.

And as a matter of fact, Argentina has been most relaxed so far on this. Try walking in another South American city without a id and get stopped by a cop.

Well I would tend to agree, my friend's husband was on the Pilar Express and 2 guys got on and robbed everyone on the bus, they had a gun and when someone resisted, the 2 guys beat him with the gun. I never heard a peep about it on the news and it's not like my friend's husband made up the story.

Oh! So when it comes to your friend's husband's story, their is no reason, why he should lie despite it not being reported in news. And when it comes to others here, all what we say must come in the news to be believable. What double standards, ciitygirl! Bravo! What's just odd BankNote, is that you tell you are an Indian expat (who came to Argentina not long ago), and that you tell this story with much details (number of people not having their DNIs, the foreigners who had to be checked, etc.).

In my humble opinion, only the police would know such details and since I really don't believe you're trolling here (or that you're especifically trolling Baexpats.org), it would be nice to know the source of what you say so that foreigners know what lies ahead and such.

If this was a routine checkpoint, they would not likely bother with buses. And those are normally handed by 4 or 5 cops in two patrol cars.
As I stated before, some judicial big dog must have ordered or backed such and inconvenient search. That would have mandated more cops on duty and extra resources take part in it. Would be interesting to know if they all came from the same precinct or from a special division at PFA.

Have received no confirmation or denial ftom my sources regarding this "procedimiento".

As far as the guy who brought the probable falseness of the story to our attention (didn't even bother to go back and see who it was - I have little use for people who can't act polite, even on a forum): try being a little more polite (as I was in this thread when I was trying to figure out what was going on with this particular story) and you will find that your comments may get a bit more positive attention than your original comment did, at least from me.

The sanctimonious tone used by some of the forum members here is so strange. I have never witnessed it in another forum.
