This is getting confusing, we're arguing over the validity of a different "Bus Incident" thread on this Bus Incident thread. I'm wondering if the author of both threads is one and the same and is simply the Media Honcho for the Bus Driver's Union trying to push through a pay raise for hazardous working conditions. Wasn't he the same guy that said somewhere sometimes they cut off the driver's fingers!

Im not sure if I believe the OP's story, but this morning, taking the 406 to Ramos from Lomas, there were 2 bus inspectors at the bus stop. They got on the bus and asked to see everyone's receipt or SUBE card.

I would've freaked out if this was done in the US, but my bf tells me its pretty common here in Buenos Aires.

The finger cutting insanity has happened at least twice before over the past years.
It's perfectly legal for the Police to stop a vehicle and verify people's ID. While not a common happenstance, it is nonetheless an annoying possibility. Surprising yes, nonsensical definitely not. Very inconvenient.
Shootings inside buses are also within the realm of our daily life. Not pleasant. There has been a few over the past years. There are more likely to happen if the BG face a cop in civvie clothes. Police tend to identify themselves and start shooting if they can not get rid of their gun and ID discreetly and fast enough. If found first by the criminals they're as good as dead.
On both threads is the public who suffers all the inconveniences, not the bus drivers. Unless they get sacked for not making the trip in the allocated time frame.

Not sure how we manage to descend into madness on such a basic subject but anyhow I don't find the story so incredible. My wife was on a bus maybe a couple years back, and the cops came on checking everyone's ID. She was only carrying a photocopy, and they were threatening to take her in. Her take was that they were maybe looking for someone or perhaps there had been an incident in the area and they were trying to provoke a confrontation.

As far as I know it's not compulsory to carry your DNI everywhere you go.
Fair enough if you are driving or operating heavy machinery, but if i'm walking about, cycling or using public transport, I carry no ID.
Why should I?

I think in most LATAM countries you are required to carry an ID with you. In Brazil for sure you are.

All right, my friend and is brother are SAME ambulance driver (they actually live one block from Entre Rios y Caceros), they work only 24 hours in a row a week, so is brother was on guard that night, they cover most of the area in the south of the capital, and guess what? Nothing even happend that night. Ok you might dont believe me, I can tell you how to contact him, you want his FB or maybe in witch Hospital he works and when, i can send them by PM to you, is not a problem. Do you want them?

Yes, I must say I found the story odd since there has been nothing in the news since and 2 people were supposedly shot. Pretty sure it would have been in a news source somewhere since it makes the headlines when drivers get their fingers cut off. Anyway, I'm glad I don't get as upset about or read into all these crime posts as much as I used to. Still, I shouldn't read them period. I'm pretty sure they caused a bad dream just the other night where my husband and I were robbed in our car.
