Improved Security In Bsas?

Yawn ...! another one of those threads B.A. versus USA. Never see a B.A. versus Monaco thread?

I presume the B.A. defenders believe that most expats on this Board are from the USA and will respond. The Argentine Knee-jerk reaction acts that way...." What about YOU" response..... :D "Como andamos por Casa?" jjajajjajajaaj

I'm going to disagree with you on this one. This kind of technology can be extremely helpful to law enforcement officials. Imagine that if you pull over a car, you immediately know whether it's stolen or not. You can immediately check to see if a person has a criminal record (are records of that even kept in Argentina?) The thing is, many of the crime problems in Argentina are actually structural. Thieves can steal, and then melt back into the villas, where there are no addresses and no organization. But any sort of organization and technology can be tremendous in fighting crime (Or so my friend who has a doctorate in criminology tells me. Actually, he says one of the problems of the NYPD is they are not technological enough). I'll agree that just buying some cars with extra technology will not fix the problem in and of itself, but it is a needed step that must happen. Hopefully they will maintain that technology and make good use of it, which I doubt. Unfortunately, it seems that one of the underlying problems in the police force here is that they are not properly trained, and many of them simply do not care. My father in law says in Spanish, 'The only thing they know how to do is ride a horse'. The police in Argentina is mostly useless.

It's fine to dissagree with me. Provides newer, fresher arguments and other points of view, promotes debate

Every now and then I get to meet cops and talk shop with them. I'm full of questions. They all bring the same subjects and answers, lack of instruction, ability to apply the rules and that the professional criminal elements always have a new trick up their sleeves. Cops can only chase after the fact, police prevention and intelligence (no pun intended, yet...) is verbotten.

Verifying drivers, insurance and green cards (ownership) is just one way to collect funds, not to prevent crime, while showing the colors. I call that waving the arms pretending to be working. They just put their new fancy cars here and there and make some extra pesos for looking the other way. They're collecting pizza and beer money while building statistics. Not even my thoughts, their words. All is just for show.

How come they just don't park all arounf the villas access routes? That would be profiling, wouldn't it? Not OK with the Human Rights crowd, yet more likely a succesfull policy that running the opposite way...But orders, are orders.

Their hands are pretty much politically tied, we all know that or should be aware of it. The rest is part of the circus. They're less clowns that what they pretend to be.

Same way that guns do not kill people, people kill people. Fancy gizmos do not provide security. All those cameras are not for our benefit, we will be victimized on the telly but they won't save us when we need assistance. When seconds count, Police is minutes away, if ever. Not promoting police presence all over the city but a system that efectively discourages the criminal element. Hi-tech ain't it.

Guns do indeed kill people. That's one reason why the homicide rate is so much higher in the US than in Europe or, for that matter, in Argentina.

ERMAHGERD! I must keep an eye on them, then!

That is so stoopid...

Where do you go in the US that you worry about that?

Please come visit my very lovely house. 3-4 cars stolen cars per month are burned outside of our property these days. Used to be 1 every 3-4 months. So nice to hear crime is declining, I'll be sure to advise the thieves of that next time.

This sounds a lot like my old neighborhood in LA- Sunday mornings on Exposition Blvd usually included at least one smoldering car, up on cement blocks because the wheels had been stolen, and several more just stripped.

Well, I have to say, no where I ever lived in the US did I need to worry about this. We have an absolutely beautiful property on about 6.5 acres. We are surrounded by very nice farms and are only about 40 minutes outside of Cap Fed. Our property has walls with barbed wire, we have security cameras, trained guard dogs, alarm system and we have firearms in the house. Overkill? Well, given the fact that clearly not such nice people are hanging around outside the property, I'm going with no. It certainly is a different lifestyle than I had previously.

Why would someone choose to live on Exposition Blvd?

I may be in the minority here, but I feel safer in Buenos Aires than in the US, where the amount of firepower available to the delincuentes is utterly out of control. I mean, I wouldn't stroll through La Boca at 3 a.m., and I do stay aware of my surroundings, but there are no drivebys with AK 47s in Bs As.

Love these posts that start the USA vs BA argument, you do realise there are lote of non US expats in this forum yeah?
