Internet: Argentina Ranked 107Th

Problem for argentina is, those thinking of investing here will look at data like that, especially with investment rivals Chile and Uruguay double the speed. Things like that really count when you're deciding where to set up your next office, HQ, hub or whatever.

Not where I'm at. :p My brother-in-law has it even worse in Castelar. Even watching YouTube videos can get annoying - having to pause and wait for them to 'load.'

In any case, it's not really the speed that's the issue, it's the reliability.
Just wanted to share that when it comes to youtube, even if you have the best connection in this country, you'll still get the buffering start stop anoyance, all of Argentina's internet is routed though Brazil..one line out to the world...not like many other countries where you have at least two or three main pipes.

I find the best way to watch any youtube video is to simply downlad the video first, using firefox as the browser...in high res with a program addon (firefox plugin) called 'flash video downloader'...you can install it in seconds, simply start the youtube video you desire to watch & click on the blue arrow icon...select the highest definition & format , I use MP4, then watch with your favourite media player, I use VLC.

You can also transfer and watch these videos onto you mobile phone etc.

I must say the Internet here is terrible. We moved into an apartment on Feb 27th and the building had Internet, which was down. So we had our own installed and it's been down upwards of 90%, currently for 8 days straight (Fibertel). I had to buy a month at Urban Station just so I could get work done. I wanted to say in BA and do web dev. remotely but it's just too much of a hassle. I was in Santiago about 3-4 years ago and I would get more reliable Internet on my phone than I can get here at my home.

BTW, I highly recommend Urban Station. The one downtown is awesome, though the one in Palermo had Internet issues the only day I visited. Could be a fluke though.

Fibertel has been a disaster for the past two weeks: Caballito. Intermittent service, daily outages. Ordered Arnet DSL over a week ago for backup, they have yet to tweak the phone line for Internet.

I did not read the ranking methodology but at face value I am sure Argentina's internet and connectivity cannot be 107th in the world. I have been to too many African countries where you can go days without access to internet no matter the price you are willing to pay.

Also, Buenos Aires (no Argentina) is a relative large exporter of "professional services for business" for which good internet connection is a requirement.

Now, according to my personal experience with customer service for internet connection has not been great here.

They could be an even bigger exporter of professional services if they got their arse together
