There's already a mechanism to buy dollars at the official rate. With people converting their foreign currency at official banks there would be less of a shortage of dollars to provide to travelers. Piece of cake.

As far as closing the Blue Market, give me a badge, a pair of jack boots and AFIP's finest SWAT team and the cries of "Cambio, Cambio" would be a distant memory.
I'm sorry, are you being serious about badges and jack boots and swat teams?
I'm hoping that you are being sarcastic, back in the 70's people called them (la pesada)death squads and yet you propose the same type of solution to the exchange problem?if so i gotta tell ya i still have a dark green ford falcon no lic plates for sale including the rear view mirror on the back doors so your gunners know who's following them
Get real Joe ain't happening no one not even The Queen herself can stop illegal exchange or you with your AFIP buddies
With your train of thought after you help the villas and backfires on you,,,,,,what are you gonna propose next?? the final solution????

I think I just lost some brain cells reading the close down the blue market proposal. Clearly common sense isn't that common.

On top of that. Thinking that we, the expat community are strong and important enough to be the only ones fueling the blue market is either arrogant or stupid.

I agree with Joe. Let's close the blue dollar market.....

....by opening up the official market and removing currency restrictions.

At least theoretically it's the correct thing to do however the pain would be enormous. I've yet to understand how this step is possible and yet to see anyone brave enough (looking at you messrs Macri, Massa, Cobos et al) to explain how they plan to achieve it.

How much for the Falcon? I always wanted one of those. Roomy, inexpensive car with retro style.

When I was a kid in the States, we considered the Falcon a laughable mistake. If your parents had one, it was an embarrassment.

I would like to point out that Xoom and other transfer agencies that transfer and then buy bonds and sell them in NY are not illegal as far as I know.

Xoom is in violation of the spirit of the law. This bond work-around was also used in Venezuela and was made illegal there several years ago. The same can be done here. We need to hire some consultants from Venezuela's version of AFIP. These Venezuelan AFIP Enforcers could be paid by shipping Industria Argentina branded toilet paper and butter back to Caracas in the same way the USSR traded technically know-how for Cuban sugar back in the glory days.
