This story claims that foreign credit cards can no longer be used in local restaurants.http://www.facebook.com/gatewaytosouthamerica?hc_location=timeline .

It has been a long time since I paid anything other than cash, so I don't know if it is true though it would surprise me.

To quote that FB entry:
'....your foreign credit cards will no longer work in local restaurants etc.'
Which this statement is entirely without corroboration as far as I can see.
I don't think this country has reached that level of loco yet.

Many restosin Capital however do not accept credit cards specially AMEX due to the high % charges. A sign No se Aceptan Tarjetas...!

I've seen that in the UK for years about AMEX. OK no sign, but AMEX has always been expensive.
Many places don't take cards over here simply because of the punitive charges. Nothing to do with where they originate.
I had to stop taking cards in my shop as the charges were horrendous.

With an interbank rate of 20%, surprised anyone is accepting plastic. Banks, financial institutions are unwinding their dollar denominated positions: blue chips. Things are tightening up. Cash flow is being throttled. Going to be interesting to see where it ends up.

Don´t know about restaurants, but couldn´t buy a computer with a foreign credit card. I asked why--nothing to do with gov´t intervention. Basically, for a card issued in the US it is very easy to "deny" charges saying that it was fraud, or you are unhappy with the product, etc. (This is basically impossible with an Argentine card). Every computer store I called had gotten burned with this scam.
So much for the myth that foreigners always pay!
I never take credit cards from my clients, but some of the supliers we work with do. And yes, one got burned with the same scam, never got paid.

Note: I was calling specific computer stores that aren´t big because I was looking for an editing station, this might not be true with a chain store like Garrabino.

Payment with Foreign CC Visa/Master is accepted at Grabarino, Fravega and Musimundo or Staples, However only one payment..!! no cuotas..
