K To Fine Tv Stations With Un-Dubbed Shows!

There is a good thread in here somewhere where technology wonks amongt us show you how to download or stream tv shows til your hearts content. I didn't watch too much tv in the last year or so but now I am here am happy to hear a bit of English (work is all Spanish, mrs d2ba speaks English only when she really needs to get her point across!). We have Cablevision HD (patchy, rotten interface but not sure if DirectTV is much better) and a new 46" tv..I am watching all the old on demand series on HBO. Nearly finished Game of Thrones and amused by Veep. After that I have a catchup of Boardwalk Empire and eagerly awaiting the new series of the Love/Hate (irish crime drama, surprisingly good).

In short, no need to suffer with rotten SAP coverage, make use of your broadband and maybe go for the HD coverage with on demand offerings. I only watch news and sports live these days, everything else is recorded somewhere.

This, like anything else here is inconsistent as hell! Flip around the channels one day, there's subs and SAP audio, the next day no subs and the SAP is switched, the day after that no SAP, no subs... no kidding :p
Right now, FX has some wierd setup where you have to turn the volume up super high to hear anything in SAP mode... last month it was regular 1:1 volume for SAP and non SAP. FX has some messed up engineers running the place.

what I love is when it's dubbed in Spanish AND you get hardcoded Spanish subtitles -- it's like they freaked out at headquarters and decided they better cover all bases and just go for spanish spanish spanish.

I prefer reading subs than dubbing for any language of movie. In fact I find the dubbing so distracting that it often seems like I can only understand if I turn away from the TV. Who knows, maybe I'm going deaf, or I just have an unnaturally high reliance on watching mouth movements when understanding? But I find it a huge distraction when I can see from their lips what they're saying in English but the voice over is in Spanish.

And don't even get me started on dubbing of children's voices. It's painfully awful to listen to. And any time there's sobbing, screaming in fright, or worse -- sex noises dubbed in.

Dubbing, like colorization, compromises the audio integrity of motion picture material. For this reason alone, it is rarely done in the majority of countries around the world. I would heartily support a worldwide anti-dubbing law.

Personally, I hate voice overs with all my heart and think this is a terrible law. Anytime I watch a non-English or non-Spanish movie, I watch it with subtitles and not voice overs. People should have a choice if they want subtitles, or voice overs.

A bit of clarification... Dubbing compromises the audio integrity of motion picture material, and colorization compromises the video integrity of motion picture material. Re the latter, colorization of original black and white motion picture material, for retail sales or public viewing, is no longer permitted in the US.

from what I understood, this law is ment to make movies that are already dubbed (canal 13, telefe) be dubbed in Argentina with Argentine actors. I don´t have cable and every movie is dubbed, unless it is a foreign film on canal 7.
Basically, if you want to dub, you must dub it in Argentina, not Mexico. It is classic import substitution.

ohh may be she wants to dub Game of Thrones by Argentainian voice actors... Heard she loves that show...

Leave it to Montauk to deep-six an otherwise normal Baexpats thread with facts. Don't you know we have a long standing tradition here of wild suppositions and crass futurology? Now if youre done bringing up reality can we get back to comparing CFK to Kim Jong Il?

dirty golpista gorillas are having fun with this on facebook :D
