I saw the thread on Lasik from 8 months ago and am looking for an update.

I am 70, wear contact lenses and am tired of the contacts and my glasses. I'm not too worried about the surgery wearing out before me :=)

Does anybody have any thoughts, recommendations, experiences to share? I will be paying myself so any cost info would also be appreciated.

Thanks all, T/

In the US 2 yrs ago, I was informed that lasik is not performed over a certain age - I was 54. RK was a possibility, but as it turned out, they found cataracts so I had those lens implants instead. Just fyi. I went to the two best specialist in the area and both said the same thing. Let me know what you find out. I would be curious.

Check out the specialized hospitals in Istanbul, Turkey. We had it done there 10 years ago (no problems since). Costs -including flight from Netherlands and accomodation- for 2 pairs of eyes was less than just one eye in the Netherlands. And I preferred to get it done by a hospital that does nothing else all day long than by an expensive doctor that maybe does a few a week.

You might be off cheaper including flights to Turkey, which is a great place to visit anyway!

My best friend from Europe, who's currently here in Buenos Aires, got a surgery performed (correction of myopia). It happened just 2 weeks ago, and the result of the Laser/Lasik surgery was, thanks God, perfect. :)

So, I'm thinking, it's quite a good way to spend one's (idle) time in this period of restricted activity... to get your myopia corrected here in BsAs!

Well, I helped my friend with the whole thing, the price negociation... we were quoted 3 prices, from 3 different clinics. At the end we made a deal directly with a famous eye surgeon, thus getting an excellent price, and all went fine.

The secret being to negotiate with the surgeon himself, not with his clinic, associates, secretary, etc.... Same thing is often true with Argentine dentists, by the way... One has to look for, and negotiate, prices, but in the end, one can find excellent prices, paying in cash (legal payment, billed and registered).

Proof that Argentina is still full of (quality) opportunities for those who can pro-actively find them. There are indeed here, excellent professionals available at low prices, in many fields, health included.

Tom interesting reading, google translate . Price suggested $34,500 pesos, Public Hospital Santa Lucia has subsidized prices.

PD LASIK surgery (Lassie..!)

Given that the peso was at 14 for one dollar in 2016, I guess the price quoted by the Sta Lucia was 2400 usd? Very expensive, and on top of that, for a humble, tired-looking, over-crowed public hospital... Well, we got from our eye surgeon a much better price, to get the surgery at a good private clinic.

Gracielle,

Will something like Lasik be covered by OSDE? any of its plans?
