Thanks for all the replies to this. Looks like we'll have to get birth certificates apostilled in the UK and then sent here for translating and then legalising. More money down the drain then..

This company got copies of my university degree, had them certified with apostille and returned to me (courier service to BA) within one week of my first contact with them.

If you email them a scan of the birth certificates they will check they are legal and certify them. They were also very helpful when I talked to them by phone.
