A neighbor offered me a local chip (Personal, Movi , or Claro) that can be used to perform long distance calls to Europe/USA to landlines unlimited 24/7 the cost is US$100 per month? anyone heard about this option.

I have not heard of an unlimited chip, other than the sense that there are some with unlimited data and then you have google voice or vonage.

For 700 pesos per month or ~80 USD @ blue, personal gives you 5000 minutes which can be used for calling to the US but not europe

edit to point out that for most people 5000 minutes might as well be unlimited

Why not skype? I use it in my work all the time and it works great (I make calls to the US on a daily basis).

Unlimited United States $6.99/month
Unlimited World $13.99/month

If you have a regular phone today, you will be able to install skype into it, unless you want to use your computer. I don't know, but you could at least try it for a month. 100usd per month sounds a little bit too much..

Skype requires a consistent internet connection which, on my cell phone in Capital, I almost never have. Where as just typing in the country code and phone number works 99.9% of the time and is always a much better quality call.

I use vonage (which is free) when I am at home and can count on a better internet connection.

I agree with Philip DT.

When I am at home in BA, I have a excellent internet connection..skype, vonage, viber..all work great.

Problem is that have something independent of internet connection, a direct cellular line at the right price!

@Philip DT...does personal ever try to cheat u on bills?

Thanks I do have Skype Unlimited World Service. However this chip would allow you to call abroad unlimited 24/7 from ANY point in Argentina without internet connection.
