Long term expats in their 30s

It's interesting, what I notice, about the age thing, when I think about it, is if someone invited me to a dinner party "for people in their 40s" (my age group) I wouldn't go. Perhaps my having a partner who is in a different age "bracket" indicates an indifference to age as a point of connection, or perhaps it makes me more aware of how little age matters, but I'm glad you posted here, because you found what you were looking for.
I'd be super interested to here back, if you actually connect deeply with each other being that expat/30s is your starting point, could be you've found the gateway to your Tribe, or could be you find something different...

You shouldn't go to that party anyway cuz your in your 50s. ;)

Me thinks you doth protest too much.

Anyway, I think the OP's really looking for people who are here for a long time. I shouldn't have jumped in as we've only been here 2 years & I know we won't be here long term.

Anyway, as I said, we always like to meet new people no matter what age.

Hmmm, AlexfromLA. A "cougar". Well thought out intelligent commentary. Perhaps you've been watching a bit too much reality TV, or porn...

You can call me anything you like. The actual reason I wouldn't go would be that I find the idea of going to a party where the only requirement for entry is age. Doesn't matter if you're interesting or have something meaningful to share. I enjoy mixes of people from different countries, of different ages, with different abilities and educations. It makes conversation more interesting to me than only engaging with those who share the same demographics. I find people of different colors, ages, socio/religious/economic backgrounds more interesting.

Peace...

I came here in my late 30s and now am on the cusp of 40......came to work at a company and stayed on after my contract ended and opened my own business. No plans to leave for the near future, however having been here 3+ years I know how up and down this country can be, and how things change so so frequently, so I've decided that I will just keep going here and see what the future holds. New York City where I am originally from just doesn't seem like a good prospect anymore. Would be great to meet some of you sometime, quite a number of ex-pats have come by my store and we had some nice chats.

Lol,

I honestly didn't think you would get offended. I didn't mean it that way.

You stated you're 47, your screen name is " hot yoga teacher ", you date a guy who's 35 ( 12 years your junior ), and you don't like people your own age.

Call me crazy but that's the definition of a cougar.
--------

Btw, If by the time I'm pushing 50, I am dating girls 15 years younger than me and in their 30's, I won't mind if someone calls me a " dirty old man ". Hell, that would be awesome if I could pull it off ;).

Oh, LOL. I thought HYT said she was 53... Opps. I guess I just reversed the boyfriends age.

I'm sure even within an age group there is a mix of "people from different countries, of different ages, with different abilities and educations" as well as "different colors, ages, socio/religious/economic backgrounds". Or are you saying that everyone within the age bracket of 30-39 are all exactly the same?

Anyway, if you are not interested don't go. But why are you giving the OP (and everyone who replied) a hard time? There is nothing wrong with looking for a bit of common ground as a starting point.

Don't you dare call me THAT! And, yes, I am, turned 50, and do!......

As for the comments regarding age, yes, I agree, I am not a lover of pigeon-holing people, based on their age either. Having said that, I hope that any group of people can find a common interest from a meeting, and that friendships can be made.

I have been here nine months now, on a long term schedule, and have made friends of permanent residents turned 60 (in one case turned 70), and be-friended folk in their 20's too.

But a starting point is ofen needed, and I am aware that not everybody shares the same thoughts on what constitutes a good night out. Personally, I like to go to a bar, with decent beer, music that is not over-powering so you can chat (Umm, Sugar may not be the best on a Froday night for talk - just a thought)), and naturally, good company. Others, I know, prefer to chew the fat over a coffee, or maybe dinner (which I also enjoy, although a sit down dinner does not have the same capability to mingle that a bar does). Each to their own...

Another good way to meet people, across a wide range of ages, is the Hash House Harriers (see seperate thread in the Events Forum), an easy going, fun way to spend a Sunday morning/lunch, and meet people from everywhere, local and travellers.

Anyway, have fun everyone, and enjoy meeting people and the craic that Buenos Aires has to offer....

Liam, am looking forward to some of that bar mingling capability with you tonight, my old friend!

:D
