Looking For Trusted Contractor For Interior Wall Work

I can't help with finding qualified workers, but can offer some suggestions on how to go about sound proofing your common wall. the sound soak panels you are referring to are a fiberous material and available in 4 x 8 panels. I am not convinced you need them. you could simply glue sheetrock to the common wall and have the joints taped and textured with what ever texture you desire. I would use 5/8 inch sheetrock. if 5/8 inch is not available, start with a layer of 1/2 inch, don't finish it and live with it for a few days to see if its sufficient. if not add another layer. the most effective and expensive way is to build a new stud wall, metal or wood, 1 inch away from the existing wall, insulate, and sheetrock with a minimum of 5/8 sheetrock. the separation will help the vibration of sound. the problem is, what once was a static wall with no activity, now has holes in it and has become a working wall. not only does the wall have penetrations but also the sound of kitchen equipment and someone working. I am a general contractor in the US and have built everything from houses, apartments complexes, to commercial buildings. sound transference was always a major concern and we dealt with it in different ways. hope this helps.

Thank you for your detailed reply, but I didn't mention any "sound soak panels," and the sound from the other apartment is VERY loud (it sounds as if it is in the room with me, and I'm not exaggerating). I got a lot of my information from these pages at The Soundproofing Company:

The thing that is not available in Argentina, nor in most, if not all, of South America, is Green Glue, and of course, here in Argentina, we can't get it (without travelling, an expensive proposition).

I value that you have a lot of experience in this area, but I don't think I want to go through this process if it only may work, or if it doesn't work well enough. I could be here for many more years. To the extent possible, I want the noise gone.

Do you have any experience using Green Glue, and how it compares with other solutions?

Why did you let her do this in the first place. You gave consent by not protesting.

I guess you weren't around when I was screaming at her at the top of my lungs that she couldn't do this, and that it was illegal.

(She just closed her door and told the contractor to keep working.)

Hi, the sound wave travels through steel, concrete/brick. By putting the different material, it stops sounds wave.

solution is the same as mine, it requires 2 layers of drywall, and glue, so you lose about 1 inch of space. The green glue replaces the metal frame. I think the metal
frame is way better than the glue, the gap cuts the noise.
You can do this too. You nail the first layer of dry wall onto the existing wall, which makes your neighbor scream. Then you pile a layer of glue other foam that you can
find in BsAs, then you use short screws, nail you the second layer of drywall. This will work too, but I do not think it will be better. It will be easier and cheaper.

Good luck!

Thanks citigirl.

No I wasn't

You can also inject foam into that gap or use fiberglass insulation or dense mat insulation. All available at Easy.

Drywall here is known as Durlock. They mount on steel frames here as wood framing is expensive and usually isn't as high a grade as in North America or elsewhere.

There's a whole list of what products are available in Argentina, I suspect you can find what you are looking for under a different name. Unfortunately I don't know of a contractor offhand.

Durlock, yes, when I first heard it, I was excited, then the contractor brought me drywall :)

garryl, did you read the web pages I posted? I don't think that you did. They talk about all of the things you are talking about, and they explain, in detail, why one is far superior to the other, including the amounts of noise that each one blocks. Green Glue is a damping agent. It converts the vibration energy into heat energy. None of the other solutions do that. The noise reduction is up to double that of your solution.

That said, I may still do your solution, since we can't get Green Glue here (at least not without travelling to the US, Mexico, or Costa Rica; those are the closest places that I've found it available).

But the solutions are certainly not equal, and they do not work in the same ways.

Good old caulking compound spread with a blade will do about 90% of green glues job
