Lower-Cost Alternatives to BA?

Thanks John, That's a great site!

Here's an example of a 450 Euro rental - two bedrooms - that would be good for two or three people. Seems to be centrally located, furnished:

The only issue is whether how many of these places will take short term rentals - one month... If you search on Alquirer Vacacional the prices jump. Some places like Asia you can get much better prices in person - because the owner is always onsite. In BA they prefer you book online. Not sure how Spain works

One advantage of Buenos Aires is that it is very easy to find short term apartment rentals....

Here's another site option http://www.tucasa.com/alquiler/pisos-y-apartamentos/cadiz/?r=&idz=0011
As I mentioned before estate agents aren't great here on email or online booking. Their websites can be grossly out of date both in terms of what they say is available and what it costs. Our rental house is posted for sale at 750k...the owner offered it to us for 450k in December. He says he knows the estate agent prices are overstated but he says Spanish people like to feel theyre getting a bargain and expect to negotiate hard. I'd say more than 50% of all houses for sale and rental here are via private deals not agents. As the rental market is so depressed monthly rentals are fine - my friend is renting her 250euro 3 bedroom house on a monthly basis as she's in the process of buying another property. We rented an appt for 2.5 months before finding the house we're in now. Going via the owners directly, via their signs on the buuldings will yield you a better rental price and flexibility...more hassle as you need to arrive, walk around and spend a night or two in a hotel but worth it.

The link below is a great site for calculating cost of living. I notice you haven't mentioned Peru and I've heard Arequipa is very inexpensive and nice. BTW, I would highly recomend Chiang Mai Thailand as an inexpensive but very nice place although much smaller than Bas As.

I do not know why everyone forgets Peru. I lived there for 2 years and it is a wondreful country. Cheap, great people, very liberal immigration policies, wonderful climate. I recommend every expat to check out Peru.

I agree and I recommended Peru on this very thread: http://baexpats.org/topic/23375-lower-cost-alternatives-to-ba/page__st__30
