Malvinas Spat ( United Kindgom beating war drums )

If Argentina attacked British soil or waters that would automatically break ties with the EU, USA, and probably the rest of the intl community.

the international community?? It will only "harm" relations with Western Europe and USA. Don´t you know that this has already happended in the past?? And we haven´t even broken relations with the US, nor Spain, France, Germany...

Peru gave us military aircraft. Soviet Union military inteligence helped us in 1982 and they would propably do it again. In fact, they offered us troops, but our leaders rejected it since they thought that WW3 might start in Argentine soil!

Luckyly, we lost that stupid war against the NATO and the military dictatorship resigned.

The only fight we should do is the economical war. Expel of our country any company who has more than the 25% of its composition in british hands.

That would lead to more unemployment and then we would have an acute epidemy of piquetes!

The only thing Argentina can -and should- do is chill out, be nice and wait. The time is on our side.

Wouldn't it harm ties with Brazil which is an unconditional ally of NATO since before WWII and has active military cooperation with the EU? Brazilian diplomacy is one of the wisest aspects of that country. They never lean one way or the other, they don't allow themselves to become puppets, but when it hits the fan they are always on the right (West's) side.

Back in the late 70s and 80s Argentina was competing with Brazil in a mini arms race with programs now scrapped, and Arg was only in the verge of war with Chile. It's a different world now. The only plausibke military conflict in SA now would be between Colombia and Venezuela.

Wouldn't that harm the Argentine economy more than the eventual gain of the islands could ever compensate? Plus, the Brits could still do the exact same biz through Canadian or African companies. Rio Tinto, Anglo Gold Ashanti... ehem...

The British have a long love affair with this most wonderful land and its peoples. Friends of mine had cousins fighting each other at Goose Green and their respective families cringe at these most upsetting rattles of the sabre, but these sentiments are not uttered by the British government! Yes you get idiots that write utter rot and spew vile and racist comments in every country.

Rubbish, utter rubbish, the first post to this thread - where does our most learned fan of the Brits emanate from?

However, most certainly this 'cause' is used by a government sinking to the depths of spin and misinformation, let's hope not the depravity, used by the former military they boast they opposed.

The Kirchners are no different from that drink-sodden politically sunk General who was just as unpopular with the people as the 'mad as a brush' incumbent housewife and her puppet faced, puppet master husband. Shame on them, face the music and do the last dance with some backbone - the Argentine people will not be fooled twice!

Yeah, I agree with you. I should have said EXPROPIATE instead but I didn´t want to be so "revolutionary"

Brazil is not an unconditional ally of NATO, you are very wrong. I say they are not even an ally. They want to occupy the role of leader in South America and that interferes with the US Monroe Doctrine. Why did they recently purchase ships, submarines and aircraft to France?? To protect their natural resources from the third world countries?? NO! To repel an eventual yanqui attack.

And those companies who do open cut mining should be dismissed from the country. The Canadian ambassador planted their flag in our cordillera (the Andes) along with some chilean and argentine governors last week. It reminds me to the spanish colonization! They extract our gold and minerals and take them out the country paying no taxes even though almost all argentines are against it... But we don´t live in a democratic world, corporations run this planet bribering our leaders.

Funny (peculiar), the British were itching to give the Falklands to Argentina before the invasion, and it probably would be in Argentina now without the invasion. Unfortunately, it took the death of 900 innocent soldiers to make the British want to turn it into a model community, and it will now be forever for the Kelpers.

This article from a couple of years back is pretty interesting. The article suggests that the UK is acting within the law in establishing its territorial limits. Argentina, btw, does have a legal claim on the islands, but that's all it is, a claim. The Argentine Government appears to believe that by constant assertion that the islands are theirs, somehow, in fact, makes the Islands an Argentine posession....surely, a fruitless policy designed only to divert attention from this country's internal issues.
