See the link increases in some cases 100 % . On the light side an expert claimed that pharmaceutical companies have margins ranging from 2000 to 3000 % :D

that is a link to cuotes from the founder of Opus Dei. DO YOU HAVE A HIDDEN AGENDA?? haha

Pharmaceutical margins are extremely high because they need to spend billions in research and development before they can actually create a working drug that has been safely tested on humans. The actual cost of manufacturing a drug is negligible, but the final product is necessarily costly in order to pay for the initial research.

There is an interesting TED talk that describes alternative methods of financing Pharmaceutical research. If you watch the first few minutes it does a good job of explaining the economics behind the industry: http://on.ted.com/qc24

How would this be applicable to Argentinean manufactured medications under license from foreign companies.

If the patent is still active, the license has a very high price. Basically, patents in the pharmaceutical sector are means to provide companies with a timed monopoly on a specific product in order to foster research. Obviously, this has some flaws, but if one would not grant patents in these cases, it would be economically bad to invest in research as a company: you'd spend huge resources and as soon as you find a new and efficient active ingredient, other companies would produce similar generic drugs which leads to no returns for the researching company.

They could save a lot if they didn't spend so much advertising directly to consumers in the states and New Zealand.

"Ask your doctor if [xxxxxxxxx] is right for you."

"May cause nausea, dry mouth, congestion, dizzy spells, nose bleeds, ulcers, low blood pressure, high blood pressure, insomnia, anxiety, should not be taken with [a, b, c, d, e, f, g, h, i, j, k, and l]"

Not to mention the millions of pharmaceutical reps who are driving around all day in company cars with their company gas cards who are either giving away years worth of free samples as their flirt with the doctors or playing golf with 3 doctors for 4 hours on a private course.

BIG PHARMA... because YOU matter. ;)

Only been to the states once and i couldn't believe the number of these adverts that were on tv. Its ridiculous and should never have been allowed to happen.
