New York City is not and never has been socialist but it's about to be under self-proclaimed democratic socialist Zohran Mamdani, America's answer to Juan Peron and "Justicialismo."

Peron was a career military officer. He was suspected of ordering his troops to fire on strikers during the Semana Tragica.
He was a fan of Mussolini, and spent time in Italy in 1939 on a "study mission".
He was also a good buddy of Stroessner, the national socialist (Nazi) dictator of Paraguay, who offered him asylum in 1955.


Its true, he did build workers housing, just like that notorious communist Nelson Rockefeller, who, during his term as governor of NYC, helped set up the NY State loans that allowed Co-Op City to be built.

Its also true he was in favor of women's suffrage, just like that other democratic socialist, Woodrow Wilson.

He also made state universities tutition free, like those raging socialist governments in scandinavia, germany, and the UK.

I think you could say he did institute some social democratic policies. Also it would be fair to say he was a fascist sympathizer.

I dont think he had much in common with a muslim Indian born in Africa, who was a rapper in his youth, though.
