We are curious about the milk we buy here in BsAs.

We are from Australia, where we have plentiful fresh milk that MUST be refrigerated. It is curious for us that it seems you can only buy long life milk here.

So, two questions:

Are there any milk experts out there who could shed some light on what the milk contains/the milking process etc?
Does anyone know somewhere we can buy FRESH pasteurised milk?

Thanks!

Look in the fridges at any supermarket, fresh pasteurized milk comes in 1lt bags ;) Bottles and boxes are long life milk and are not in the fridge.

Thanks very much! I just thought the bags/bottles/cartons were all the same as the packaging looks the same. But I will definitely look at that bagged stuff in the cold section. :)

red/ white bags full cream green/white low fat. You will need to buy a 1 liter plastic milk jug to stop the shitty bag falling over.

To my mind the bags in the fridge section last unnaturally long as well, if left out on the table. Although one possible explanation is that the bag collapses around the milk giving it less exposure to air, I believe there is something in the milk here, whether it's given to the cow or added later... something is different, no???

Not completely true, there is also non-longlife milk sold in cartons in the refrigerated section.

A dairy farmer in Entre Rios recommended buying powdered milk. Why? The stuff you buy that says milk is super-processes, the milk fats are skimmed off and replaced with vegetable oil. They add tons of vitamins, fiber (??), more protein (??), etc. Powdered milk is just milk.
Strange but true. . .
If I buy fresh milk I buy the cheapest ones I can find because it has the less addatives. Serenisma scares me, is there anything they don´t put in it?

Good topic. After over 6 years I've never asked...is there any one else in the same boat in that they loved drinking a glass of cold milk back home (States for me but wherever that may be for you) but here it makes them gag? I still use it but never for just drinking a glassful. Have never gotten and guess I never will get used to the taste.
